The thumb break aids retention and reduces to virtually nil the chance of a negligent discharge. Mine are pretty ancient pieces of well maintained leather(newest holster is old enough to vote).
I carry owb at 3:00 w/double mag carrier at 9:00, and have done so concealed and open for decades. The only thing that changes in my gear, open to concealed, is use of a cover garment.
Muscle memory, after uncounted thousands of draw strokes, brings my thumb to the break and then down to the grip without conscious effort. I know that I can quickly and surely draw my pistol if the need arises.
When I have open carried, 95% of the folks wandering around in public never even see the pistol. They don't expect a well dressed, clean cut, old fat guy to have one and it just never registers. Of the 5% who do see the pistol, most assumed that I was a LEO or the like(I've heard comments on my age, physical condition, etc. for a police officer) The remaining just avoid me.
I have never been confronted by anyone, LEO, Security or Concerned Citizen about carrying the pistol. There have been two (2) curious guys over the years who have asked about my CBOB.
Do you open carry into work?
When I resided in Arizona, Yes. Carried into my bank 4-5 times a week making deposits, transacting other business. Carried in the field, on horseback, fishing etc. Picked up milk on the way home, KFC, going to the picture show. It wasn't a big deal. The only place that asked me to disarm was the caterer/baker that my eldest daughter chose for her nuptial celebration....needless to say, my $ went out the door with me.
My father open carried, My mother(Main Line transplant)open carried when ever she rode or was out on the property alone. My sibs(5)carried. Our hands carried. Our neighbors carried.
My Best Man, he was concerned about snakes, left his BBQ pistol in his truck under duress, lol, when my soon to be sister-in-law pitched a fit. My wife and I exchanged vows at the Fountain Hills Fountain

Timed to be pronounced man and wife at the stroke of 8:00 p.m. The Fountain erupted on the hour for 10 minutes.
And No, it wasn't my idea and I don't think anyone thought about the imagery. The Fountain just looked great all lit up.
Let me rephrase. Did you OC while at work?
Also that Fountain sounds epic cool.

Anyway, in this case retention might have helped. It sure could not have hurt.
Unless you go by MOJO logic because then I can say that the retention probably made him too slow off.the draw and got him killed and since there is nothing in the story that says that isn't true you really can't argue against it. Unless you are an assistant DA or some sort of law student for some reason I don't get.

Its a board with opinions. They can argue the moon is really a purple fairie spirit reincarnation of Elvis if they want. If you disagree, fine, but you're just one opinion among many, and as relevant. :nono:

There are always idiots out there. But they do not represent the everyday reality of the thousands of ordinary nondescript Americans who already quietly go about living their life while open carrying.
They will once the media is done.
I don't care where you did it before. Its not Texas. :nono:

The OC movement as you put it consists of more than just the extremists of which you speak. There are many OC proponents who do not agree with the OCT and OCTC fools.
You're not the guys I'm worried about. :tiphat:
I would actually advise a retention holster if this is expected to be in town, for the primary reason I wouldn't open carry personally. I'm worried about others trying to grab the firearm.

It wasn't that long ago that Rob and Laura were sleeping in separate twin beds. Now look at what we see on TV.
No. They will think you're a cop.
To be clear I am not against OC -EXCEPT FOR EVERYONE IN THE OC MOVEMENT. I think it will be forgotten about most of the time as people will assume they are PoPo, unless its the OC crowd doing something stupid AGAIN. This will impact all of us.

Re: If and When OC Passes, The Best Way to Do It Discussion

We will not win over everyone and I do not expect to. If we can win someone over that is great. If not, they were lost anyway.

I don't place much in what others think of me anyway. You shouldn't either. Thanks for your comments.
The difficulty here is that it impacts how people feel about the cause. We've had several chains at least publicly get caught up because of Fatman and Snowboots.

As noted, most people won't notice or just assume you are a cop, unless you do something to flaunt it. Its much different than walking in with a rifle.

I was looking more for how do we present OC in a positive manner? How do we teach the uninformed?

We focus a lot on deescalation here on the forum. I am certain that future Texas OCers will be faced with scenarios where such steps will be required. Not every OC excursion will be a positive one especially in the urban environs where the not-so-gun-friendly live.
You won't. Unless you're in a rural environs, you're going to make yourself and the cause look stupid, like Fatman and Snowboots.
The concept of "educating" others is...misplaced.
Excuse me? Could you rephrase your comment so it is more clear? Not following how trying to educate will make me (us) look stupid.
Because you're not educating anyone. In their view, you're just showing off, like Fatman and Snowboots.
If you're a rural environment its fine, because, like long guns, its tradition and there's an actual reason.
In Starbucks it just looks like 1) you're a cop; or 2) you're overcompensating for not being said cop.
