I have been forced to shoot in self defense twice in my life. The first time was scary but no real legal issues. The second time ended up costing me 17,500.00 and a month of extreme concern about being tried for AM and AA. I realize now I got off easy. Defending our lives with deadly force has consequences that go far beyond what I believe most of us consider.

Zimmerman does not deserve what is happening and may end up serving time to placate the real racists in our society. I feel horrible for him.

In answer, I don't think any precedents are set until the appeals are over. If he's convicted here, surely his appeal will be successful. Assuming, of course, that he can afford one...

They brought in his school records (interviewing a teacher of his right now). Also interviewed a cop from an agency he'd applied for an officer's job.

Carter testified that injuries aren't required for a valid self-defense claim, but that they can support that a person had a "reasonable fear" of harm or death. A situation can turn deadly very quickly, he said.

Defense attorney Mark O'Mara argued Zimmerman's education is irrelevant, and letting the state use it would represent a double standard: "We have taken pains not to get into Trayvon Martin's school records," he said Tuesday.

He reiterated that point in court today, arguing that this evidence could open the door to Trayvon's "history of fighting."

The judge replied that she doesn't want to argue that now.
