Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
I'd be more concerned if I lived in Florida, but only slightly. Nattering nabobs on the internet aren't anything to be concerned about. After all, its too hot to riot.

I don't think they're that concerned.

sjfcontrol wrote:In answer, I don't think any precedents are set until the appeals are over. If he's convicted here, surely his appeal will be successful. Assuming, of course, that he can afford one...03Lightningrocks wrote:This situation is a glaring example of how utilizing our right of self defense can save our lives but ruin them at the same time. This whole deal makes my stomach turn. If they manage to convict Zimmerman, does this set a new standard for proving self defense in Florida? Al Sharpton made a stupid comment alluding to how it will be open season on all young black men if Zimmerman is acquitted. I wanted to ask him if the inverse were also true. A conviction means all young black men have a free pass to assault innocent people?
I have been forced to shoot in self defense twice in my life. The first time was scary but no real legal issues. The second time ended up costing me 17,500.00 and a month of extreme concern about being tried for AM and AA. I realize now I got off easy. Defending our lives with deadly force has consequences that go far beyond what I believe most of us consider.
Zimmerman does not deserve what is happening and may end up serving time to placate the real racists in our society. I feel horrible for him.
Does this mean every man and woman has to wear google glasses to record someone about to assault/attempt to rape them?
maybe it does in Florida.

I'm ok with that. As a Libertarian I have no problem with what you do to yourself. But the moment you get on the road then liability should be severe.

If true, thats about that for that.ScooterSissy wrote:It sounds like the judge is going to allow the defense to present the fact that Martin was on drugs, and offer an expert witness that the level would have affected Martin's behavior.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
What are the odds Z testifies at this point? on the one hand putting him up is a major risk. On the other hand the jury will look highly askance if he claims self defense but doesn't actually testify.

Again blocked-don't know what this is, but it sure sounds like the Keystone Kops.

They brought in his school records (interviewing a teacher of his right now). Also interviewed a cop from an agency he'd applied for an officer's job.
Looks like it might back fire some:

also:Carter testified that injuries aren't required for a valid self-defense claim, but that they can support that a person had a "reasonable fear" of harm or death. A situation can turn deadly very quickly, he said.
If that comes in trial is over.Defense attorney Mark O'Mara argued Zimmerman's education is irrelevant, and letting the state use it would represent a double standard: "We have taken pains not to get into Trayvon Martin's school records," he said Tuesday.
He reiterated that point in court today, arguing that this evidence could open the door to Trayvon's "history of fighting."
The judge replied that she doesn't want to argue that now.

Judge will be ruling on that today.
Wait, what?
That won't make it.

help me out those who watched. Was this testimony under direct examination by the prosecution? And a day later they object? if sophilip964 wrote:If you ever wanted to see a government "show trial" this is it. I Have never seen such nonsense masked as justice. The motion this morning to suppress the police testimony by the prosecution is it.
EDIT: I see, it was cross examination. But they didn't object yesterday to it?

Judge just ruled that jury will disregard both the question and answer.
Yes I am sure the jury will disregard the question and the answer.
