That's what they did with mine and test fired it.
Have you had any issues with the P238 since then?

How's that laser guard going? That was pretty cool of Sig.

Re: Sig P238 failure to eject - HELP!

Thanks guys!

I'll definitely report back. Sig rep said they replaced the extractor. The extractor looked fine to me when I looked at it. But I'm no expert. Too bad 380 ammo is so expensive and hard to come by. Shooting three boxes of 380 is going to be at least $60. Aargh.

Re: Sig P238 failure to eject - HELP!

Got notification from Sig today that P238 is getting shipped back to me via Fed Ex.

10 days turnaround time. Awesome.

Sure beats the local LGS stating that it would take the LGS three days just to get a RMA from Sig, and that the total turnaround time would likely be 6-8 weeks.

Re: Sig P238 failure to eject - HELP!

Well, getting a laser guard for the hassle wasn't too shabby! I do hope they don't send my gun to Anchorage though!

Re: Sig P238 failure to eject - HELP!

Thanks. I've talked with Kyle and Andy so far. Kyle is by far friendlier than Andy. But neither sounded very knowledgeable.

Sigh ...
:banghead: The smith should have sent the magazines too. I would give Sig CS a call and let them know about the problem. Offer to send the mags in directly to them so they can test them.
I just called Sig, and the customer service representative Andy said they don't need the magazine, because I had FTE's in both of the magazines that I have for the P238. I don't quite understand the CSR's logic given that I might just have problems in BOTH of my magazines. Oh well. I emailed a different CSR (Kyle), and told him that I'd ship the magazines over if and when Sig's gunsmith wants it. I also emailed Kyle the photos and gave him the round count history.

I'm sooooo frustrated!!! It's worse than waiting for the CHL to arrive.

This is handgun number six. Never had ANY problems with the others: 2 Glocks, 1 Smith Wesson, 1 Walther and 1 Ruger. This Sig is the most expensive out of the six too.

Frustrated, angry, irritated ...

Thanks for letting me rant ...

Re: Sig P238 failure to eject - HELP!

Thanks for all the feedback folks. I really appreciate it. This is definitely THE best firearm related forum in the world. Members here are super helpful and friendly. Could it be that most of us are Texans? :)

I took the P238 back to the LGS, and they are sending it back to Sig. However, I cannot but have this bad feeling that I should have just sent the gun back to Sig on my own.

The folks at the LGS did not seem to be very happy with me. When I first called, the sales guy told me to make sure to bring the gun back within 30 days so that they could take care of me, which I did. When at the shop though, the manager tells me that 30 days doesn't mean anything, because other than sending the gun to Sig for warranty repair, the only other thing he can do it is buy the gun from me as an used gun.

The gunsmith comes out to complete a form so that they can send the P238 back to Sig. Gunsmith writes the serial # down, gives me a receipt, and says "so your problem is that the gun won't fire, right?" I'm like, "No, it's a failure to eject, which what we've been talking about for the last 30 minutes." I show him many photos that I took, and the gunsmith at the LGS says "wow, that's a first." I told him that there is plenty of photos on the internet about this same issue with this same gun. Gunsmith tells me that he's never seen that.

Gunsmith then takes the gun away, but tells me to keep the magazines, which I did.

Sigh ...

Sorry, I meant symmetrical. They are the same on both ends. From the photos posted by others, the older P238 spring had a front and back.

Re: Sig P238 failure to eject - HELP!

I cleaned and extra lubed before heading to the range. Checked spring, ejector, extractor, and everything looked fine to my layman's eyes.

Started with 50 rounds of PMC 95 grain FMJ. Perfect firing. Got my hope up.

Followed with 50 rounds of Winchester 95 grain FMJ. After about 25 rounds, still perfect.

Then I had two failure to ejects just like before, including one on round 47 of the Winchester box.

Recap:
150 rounds of PMC 95 grain FMJ with 4 FTE
50 rounds of Fiocchi 95 grain FMJ with 3 FTE
50 rounds of Winchester 95 grain FMJ with 2 FTE
25 rounds of Remington Golden Sabre 102 grain JHP with 2 FTE

Total: 275 rounds with 11 FTE.

I'm taking it back to the LGS tomorrow and see what they can do before I send it back to Sig. If they offer me a refund, I'll likely take a refund. Even if someone fixes it now, I will find it difficult to trust this gun as my wife's self defense weapon.

Bummer, because it is a fun and easy gun to shoot.

I'll give it (yet) another good clean and now a SUPER LUBE. I'll likely get a chance to shoot on Tuesday, and will report back if rounds 176-275 are better, worse or the same.

Wish me luck!
While you are cleaning ( or, were, as the case may be), remove the firing pin stop and pull out the extractor for inspection. Be certain to get rid of any carbon in the extractor claw. Make those rails extra greasy ;-)
I will try! Never took a gun apart past the typical cleaning of removing slide.

Re: Sig P238 failure to eject - HELP!

The recoil spring on my P238 does not look like the one in the photo above. It's identical on both ends of the spring. I can't tell the ends apart.

Re: Sig P238 failure to eject - HELP!

Thanks for the tidbits. I'll try that when I get home. I do have five rounds of dummy plastic ammo.

The shell is stuck on a horizontal position. No smokestack.

I may have a few more questions as gun parts knowledge is definitely not my forte!
