Re: Bills Still Alive as of the evening of 5/23

I got an email from the SREC reporting on legislative deadlines and certain bills. The following gun-related bills are said still to be a priority. But they don't say the ones in House Calendars have a realistic chance. The email seems to be a way to make us think they're on top of things. SB 16 Ni...

Tired of Fake News? Here's a fake product advertisement from those sex toy carrying hoplophobes at UT Austin. Since there's no product, can they be sued for false advertising? http://www.businessinsider.com/student-body-armor-campus-carry-laws-2017-4 Students for Concealed Carry Responds to Faux ad...

Re: Tower - Documentary

So you would say it was much better than the Netflix reviews? I think it was sitting at one and a half stars when I saw it on there the other day. It kind of downplays the significance of the people who returned fire--something that got significant coverage in the Texas Monthly article on which the...

Re: Community College Campus Carry

Couple of things to look for: 1. UT said you can't have a round in the chamber. Not compliant of course, as they can't tell you "how" to carry. The UT System board of regents overruled that policy, but Central Texas Community College in Killeen adopted the same policy. SCC press releases ...

Re: Del Mar College campus carry input

It would seem that banning carry in campus shuttle vehicles would not be allowed by statute. A school cannot pass rules that generally restrict carrying on campus. If you ride the shuttle to school and can't carry your gun, then you are effectively prevented from carrying anywhere on campus. It see...

Re: Del Mar College campus carry input

Compared to the policies approved by some colleges and universities, Del Mar's look pretty good. The only one that seemed questionable to me was "In the College’s passenger transportation (if without written permission)." I'm assuming the college doesn't have a shuttle service or bus servi...

Re: And they stand adjourned again...

Let's see... Texas Legislature meets for 140 days every two years. The 85th Legislature officially began on January 10, 2017. Since then, there have been 3 concurrent resolutions filed granting permission for the legislature to adjourn for more than 3 days. SCR 7 Author: Whitmire Sponsor: Kuempel L...

Re: Campus-carry activist at Ohio State shot dead near campus

Thanks. Maybe I'll mosey over to use the library if I don't have to disarm any more, since 30.06/07igns are invalid on government property. A 30.06 sign is most likely valid if posted on a building on a public university campus (Class A misdemeanor). I say "most likely" because public uni...

Yes, but this does not bar municipalities from banning knives in city-owned buildings.
Actually, it does.

Re: Knife preemption bill

Correct, the 84th Texas Legislature passed knife preemption ( HB 905 ) in 2015. That same session, Knife Rights almost passed a bill ( HB 3884 ) to rewrite the state law on "illegal knives," but Senator Whitmire pulled the rug out from under them at the last minute. They're going to make a...
