Re: status change background check under review
My status changed to "Background check in progress" on 20 April and today (15 May) it changed to "Background check completed" and "CHL: Manufacturing pending." As someone said in an earlier post, processing times seems to be all over the map.

Re: March 12
I mailed my info in on 4 March and got the yellow and green page showing they are running the background check on 20 April. Looks like I'm holding 8 days ahead of you. Does anyone know how long the background checks usually take now days? I'm assuming the FBI is as backlogged as the DPS.

Re: How about this situation???
AEA--OK, I didn't know that "A valid TXCHL lets you bypass the instant check system" . I don't know how long it would take to fill out the 4473, but the "instant check system" phone call takes about 30 seconds. Abraham--My point was that you do not need a CHL to keep a gun in you...

Background Check
Does anyone have good information regarding the scope of the background check? Unless they send people around to interview your friends, neighbors, and employer, it must be only a criminal history records check, a driving records check, and maybe (but doubtful) a credit history check. What else woul...

Re: How about this situation???
Maybe find another gun shop?
I don't remember being asked for a CHL in order to buy a gun. Not everyone who buys a gun intends to carry it around--some people just want it in the house--so restricting gun sales to only CHL holders would seem to limit sales.

Finally Got Confirmation
For those of you sweating it out: I applied online, took the class on 2 March, and mailed the paperwork on 4 March. Today (Saturday--20 April!) I finally see the yellow and green status page. Now I am awaiting the background check. Since I have always been squeaky clean and nice to old people and du...

Re: March applicants
From what I see here, the website phrase " Application processed online. Concealed Handgun Licensing is waiting on the receipt of required materials " doesn't really mean that USPS has not yet delivered my package mailed on 4 MAR, it just means that DPS hasn't yet opened the package and en...
