Re: Comp-Tac Minotaur MTAC Holster Review
It has actually gotten better. I use to not be able to hold the holster upside down with out the pistol falling out. After a year I can do that. It will still fall if I wiggle it but just turning it upside down will not casue it to fall out. Since I only have one pistol and its always in that holster the leather might help hold it in better. I plan on writing a 1 yesr update for this holster when I get time. Stay tunned.WEC wrote:Wildscar,
Now that you've owned the holster for about a year, have you noticed any decrease in retention with time? For the other people viewing this topic, if you look at Wildscar's picture of the holster on the first page, the dimple near the trigger guard is the primary point for retention, and you can adjust it with the nearby hex screws. When I first got the holster and was pulling/reholstering my gun I noticed a trace amount of Kydex on my trigger guard and some scrapes on the inside of the Kydex holster at the dimple. I've heard that the retention can fade over time. So far so good for me, but I've only had mine a few weeks. Thanks!

Yeah I got that same E_mail in the same day that I got the Your Order has been shipped E-mail. Guess it just depends on what they have in stock.

Gemiar wrote:Another question I came up with while looking at the different styles that Comp-Tac offers: What is the difference between the MTAC and Spartan holsters? I can't seem to tell the difference.
Basically is one piece of leather backing. The MTAC has two and covers all the gromits so they wont poke or scratch your side when carried for long periods of time.Com-tac Website wrote:

The Spartan is a "meat and potatoes" economy version of the MTAC. The Spartan is tuckable, you can adjust the cant, and you can get additional kydex half-bodies for different weapons, all like the MTAC. It's not as pretty, and the fasteners aren't covered, but it'll save you a few dollars.

Re: Comp-Tac Minotaur MTAC Holster Review
Welcome to forum. I have not tried to carry in the small of the back so I would not be able to asnwer your question. I can tell you that carry the way I do works for me. No one will notice as long as you dont draw attention to it. If I can conceal my Beretta this way then you should be able to carry just about anything this way.Gemiar wrote:I just recieved my Florida CWP this last weekend and have been searching for a nice holster. After reading the reviews posted here and on other sites, I think I have made my decision. I was wondering, has anyone used this holster with it in the small of the back instead of the hip? Pros / cons to either position?
Thanks for all the helpful reviews.
One more thing to consider about SOB carry is that when you sit down in a car you are bascially sitting on it and it can be a pain to get to. I have found that 3 oclock carry for me work. This way I can reach it with either hand while sitting or standing or flat on my back. If you can get to it intime you might as well leave it at home.

I was able to carry this rig all thought the summer. Even on days when the temp were above 100 degrees. You shouldn't have a problem.DoubleJ wrote:Shewt, with that MTac, by the time it heats up, you'll be so used to wearing it, you'll find yourself wearing it year-round!

My comments are in red45Carrier wrote:How is the fit/retention ? Is the gun stable when you're moving around ? The Kydex/leather combo left me wondering if the Kydex being so slick, might compromise retention.
If I take the holster and hold it in my hand and turn it upside down the Pistol will fall out. While wearing it however I can bend over and touch my toes and its stays put. The belt is part of the retention.
How do you like the C-clips ? Have you tried the J clips ? The std clips ?
I also have a set of the Standard clips and I feel the C clips are better becasue they come over the pants and back down between the pants and belt and hold to the belt. With those you will never have to worry about the holster comming out with the pistol.
Any 'wear in' time, how long did it take for the rig to be acceptably comfortable ?
If I had to put a time on that I would say about a day or two and thats just to figure out the postion that works for you. I know now they are being shipped with new clips that have more holes. That makes for alot more choices. As for the comfort that was never an issue. It was comfortable the first time I put it on.
I know the last question is subjective, but I'm used to my carry rig being on me and not being any distraction whatsoever. I'm hoping the Minotaur is the same.
I should have put a picture of the back side. There is a part where the rough side of the leather is placed so that thegrain is pointed down. It helps to keep the hoslster from sliding down. With my previous holster I was constantly having to readjust. With this one I put it on and bascially forget about it.
After carrying this rig for a while, any recommendations ?
It may not be combat tested but I feel that I have atleast real world tested and it works for me. Everyone is diffrent. If anyone is still on the fence about it let me know Ill see if I can set up a meeting at the range or something and let yall try it on.
Thanks again for the first class, real world, *useable* review.
Any time.

Comp-Tac Minotaur MTAC Holster Review - 1yr Update
Comp-Tac Minotaur MTAC Holster Review
I know I said I was going to do this along time ago but I'm just now getting around to it. This review is for the new MTAC from Comp-Tac. I got the C-clips for mine. Best investment I have made holster wise.
First the customer service from Comp-Tac is really good. I ordered it on a Monday night around midnight. Got an e-mail from them the next morning about 9AM that it was being made and would take about a week to 10 days for that step. About 4 hours later I got my second e-mail stating that it had been made and that it was being sent to the shipping department. This was on a Tuesday. It was in my mail box on Friday afternoon. I live about 20 miles east of Dallas so that might have take it an extra day. Had a personal message to enjoy the holster and return it if I had any problem. Got the heart the smiley face and all.
Right out of the package it felt great. Took about a day to find the sweet spot for me. Adjusting it was simple and pretty straight forward.
I have been wearing it for over a month now and I would recommend this holster to anyone looking for a IWB holster. Here are a few points of interest.
1. With this holster on I have shot an IDPA match in it and placed 2nd in un-classed shooters. Even beat a Marksman in over all time.
2. I have put this holster on while sitting in the passenger seat of a moving car.
3. Gotten in and out of all my cars and have not ever felt it.
4. Chased down my dog one day when she got out. (She's fast too, Specially when she saw the cat.) Holster and pistol never moved.
5. Crawled around a roof top hanging Christmas lights.
6. Can re-holster with one hand. Some others say they have problems. I found it easy to do.
But here is the kicker. The other day my wife and I went and took our son to a Christmas carnival and they boasted the largest inflatable slide in the world. Weather it is or not I have no idea. Of course my son wanted to go and at first I thought I would get away with letting my wife take him down but after that he still wanted me to take him. So we go stand in line and I hand my wallet and keys and stuff to my wife and make the climb up this inflatable slide with my son under one arm cause he was having difficulty with all the bouncing around. All the way up I had thoughts of something going wrong and shooting a hole thought the darn thing or flashing the a crowd of people and the police tent that just happen to be right at the bottom of the slide. But I still did it. I sat down and placed my son so I could hold him in front of me. The attendant pushed me from behind and I thought for sure he was going to feel it. Never did. Slid down the slide and the holster and pistol stayed there. No ND/AD no flashing no S.W.A.T. team being called for a mad man with a gun on the thing. Met my wife at the bottom and put my shoes back on and collected my wallet ,keys and other stuff from her and went on my way. Wore the holster the rest of the day and didn't even have to adjust it any reason.
And just in case you don't know this is all done with a Beretta 92FS. If I can do it with that monster of a pistol it can be done with any pistol. I hope this has helped anyone looking for a new holster either add one to the list or at least consider a new alternative. Another bonus for this holster is the flexibility of it. If you decide you like this platform and want to use it for several pistols just send 30 bucks to Comp-Tac and they will send you a new shell to use with the different firearm. Like to see ya do that with a VMII or a Tucker.
Over all score A+. I have not found anything I don't like about it.
I will say this. It's a holster. Yes its going to affect the finish. ALL holsters do. This one is no different. I didn't buy my pistol to be a holster queen.
Beretta 92FS in MTAC
Empty MTAC from the top to show half kydex/half leather
This one is just me sitting here at the computer desk. I would normally have a cover shirt over it or just pull the shirt down over it but I wanted to show yall how it looks sitting down.
And this is a pic of all the other junk that I carry with me.

One year update.
Here is a small update for this holster. After wearing this holster for over a year I can only say its gotten better that when I first got it. I have not had to try the swappable body frames but the post below does have one person experience with them. Please read.
MTAC multi gun holster review..
----March 11, 2010----
2.3 year update.
I know this update is a little late. Just been busy. Here is a another small update for this holster. This holster just gets better with age. I have heard stories of people having a draw full of Holsters that didn't work or didn't live up to the hype. I can honestly say that I only have 2 holsters. This one and another from Comp-Tac that I only use for IDPA. Great holster from a Great company. And I know I have said it before but Ill say it again. If this holster can hide a Beretta 92FS it will hide anything.
