I agree they are going after the weakest link by going for background checks, and that will likely lead to the next weakest link. But our best defense is to continue growing the culture. Skyrocketing carry permits in almost every state, increased number of youth taking to the shooting sports, and - not directly in our control - a continued fall in overall violent crime rates. All of those things continue, we will be OK. Any of those things falter significantly, and we will be in trouble.SQLGeek wrote:No...not yet anyways but I think we're starting to see opposition to the fringes of the latest gun control push starting to erode. I think those pushing gun control in Congress realize that these Feinstein type bills looking at banning semi automatic weapons outright only serve to galvanize their opposition in strong numbers. Nibbling at the edges though, with just a background check bill is seemingly much more palatable to many gun owners, including some posting on this forum. This bill is going to get brought up again because the Democrats feel emboldened in Congress after the GOP shutdown fiasco, the results of the November elections and because I'm sure the POTUS would welcome a diversion from the ACA implementation disaster.mewalke wrote:

Like dripping water, they'll keep pushing on the weaker parts until something gives way.
Other areas and issues across the country are shifting to the left, so I think this is a foregone conclusion of what can (will?) happen.
I hope to God I'm wrong but somehow I don't think I am.

Re: Guns & Ammo editorial calling for gun control
Are you saying you believe that gun control is becoming a popular opinion among the majority of Americans? I would say that is far from the truth and the reason the background check bill is being discussed again now is that it is the only straw they have left to grasp at since it did receive some favorable polling and bi-partisan support originally.SQLGeek wrote:Between this and seeing rumblings about the background check bill being back on the table, I'm afraid the tide is starting to turn.Jumping Frog wrote:Didn't do us any favors. Huff Post and Brady campaign are already quoting him.

I prefer to spend my magazine dollars with American Rifleman and Shooting Illustrated, although one of those rags is included with my NRA dues.
