All the new proposals Ive seen don't have a grandfather clause. I think California was the first state to implement a no grandfather clause on guns and mags a few years ago and should have been shut down but I don't know if it was ever challenged. Massachusetts has a new law on bumpfire stocks where if you didn't turn them in it could be 18 months to life in prison, the 18 months is given if you would roll on fellow non compliant buddy(s). I believe the proposed Minnesota bill was 99yrs in prison if you don't comply. This is the future for this stuff no door knocking just outrages imprisonment because they know gun owners are law abiders. Its not like you could take your contraband bumpstock or rifle or mags out to a public range.
