Re: Where to report violations of Chap 2155, Occupations Cod

This is too good not to post.

Got my 'official' response from The State of Texas about enforcement of this statute. From the ombudsman, no less.
See Below :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Can you tell me what agency would be responsible for enforcement of the above referenced statute?

Thanks

A TX legislator went to a gun show, bought some guns, left them in her hotel room and went out to eat. The maid found the guns, freaked, called the manager, who secured the guns ( and ticked off the legislator). She wrote/passed the bill that said if they do not want guns, they have to tell their patrons. Who among us want unsecured guns laying around our house, especially left by strangers?

The moral is: Don't leave your guns unsecured in your hotel room. DUH. Probably better locked in the trunk of your car.

Like Charles is trying to point out. If we call and ask the hotel what their policy is on guns, they 'may' say no guns. If we push, and push, and push, they may post 30.06 signs.

I don't recall ever seeing a 30.06 sign on a hotel. I'd assume they did not have one. Personally, I'm not going to got searching their website for their gun policies. (It's supposed to be prominent.) But, I am not going to leave my gun(s) unsecured in the room, either.

So you leave them in your car? I have had two cars broken into in Hotel parking lots. And most hotels no longer have safes at the front desk either. I get the whole don't push the issue thing, but shouldn't they tell you IF the are posted 30-06 if you ask? I would rather stay at a hotel where I can legally keep my protection with me in my room that one where I cannot.

And I still have not received an answer from the hotel. Posting my thoughts about the management would violate board rules. I am not going to the seminar.

Once a business posts 30.06 they have pretty much made their opinion clear, have they not?

While I do not think anyone should be 'harassed' over a choice they have the right to make, is it your opinion that they should not be politely informed that there are economic consequences which result from their choice?

I have changed physicians, auto dealer, bank and other businesses because of their choices regarding my right to self defense. I have on each occasion very politely informed them of my reasons for no longer giving them my money.

I intend to continue to do so. Would you prefer that I not?

You might take a slightly less aggressive tone with the "libtards". I'm sure that not all of those businesses are left wing. Some may be on the fence and simply need a little education about the statistics around CHL holders in order to change their mind. I'm sure than many are just responding to the demands of insurance providers and other outside forces. Calling them "libtards" or coming off on the offensive probably isn't going to encourage a reversal of course.

I do understand the frustration.

I like Chas' thoughts on the issue. I agree.. It's better to say nothing here than push notification in places that are doing it wrong and force them to make changes that are likely to be permanent.[/quote]

Perhaps anti-tards? You coin a name... ;-) I was and am very polite with anyone I contact on this issue who is on the wrong side... I was even nice to the Hotel Manager who did everything but flat call me a liar that I had a reservation at an event in his Hotel... I do tend to vent a bit here... Guess the frustration has to come out somewhere... :banghead:

I did find your comment "demands of insurance providers and other outside forces" interesting... there is a great question for a new thread! viewtopic.php?f=7&t=69510" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Where to report violations of Chap 2155, Occupations Cod

I will, as Charles suggests let this lay. He is certainly better attuned to the 'Big Picture' than I :txflag:

It just frosts me that you can't get a straight answer out of the anti's. If they are posting 30.06, why aren't they proud of it since it makes them so safe and cuddly and everything? :banghead:

It irritates the bejezus out of me to go somewhere, walk the thousand miles uphill through the snow on my bare knees over broken glass to the front door of some libtard business only to find a 30.06 sign so I have to go the thousand miles uphill through the snow on my bare knees over broken glass back to my ride to disarm while hoping nobody sees me and makes a 'man with gun call' to the po po while hoping I don't slip and shoot myself while putting the pistol in the glove compartment and then I walk the thousand miles uphill through the snow on my bare knees over broken glass to the front door again while now worrying that if my truck gets stolen while I am in the store spending money with the libtard business I may emerge to find a now well armed criminal driving off with my truck.... :mad5

Just sayin....

Oh... and not surprisingly... no response to my written request for an answer if they are posted 30.06 or not....

Re: Where to report violations of Chap 2155, Occupations Cod

Update - I have e-mailed the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation as they seem to be responsible for the Occupations Code to see if they think they are in charge of the new statute.

We shall see....

(c)AAA hotel owner or keeper commits an offense if the person does not comply with this section. An offense under this subsection is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than $100."

Where to report violations? What agency is responsible for enforcement?

Why do I care? I have received an invitation to a seminar being held at the Galleria Doubletree. I used the Hotel website to send an inquiry asking if the Hotel was posted 30.06. I received a response directing me to e-mail a member of the hotel staff. I did. The response was "It is our policy to follow all city, state and federal laws regarding firearms. Please let me know if I can provide any additional information."
I replied and asked the original question again and was told that I needed to contact a different member of the staff via e-mail. I did. The response said I should call the Director of Rooms. I did. Twice. Got voicemail and left message but no return call. I got his cell number and called that and he answered and when I asked the question he told me to "call corporate". I asked to whom I needed to speak, he said "call corporate". I asked what number, he said it was on the web site.

Now somewhat irritated :mad5 I called the Hotel back and asked for the Manager. I asked him the same question. He was evasive and asked "who I was with". I happen to be on a Talk Radio program that my wife and I host on Saturdays but I told him I was just calling for my own information. He asked 'why' I wanted to know and I explained about the seminar. He asked when the seminar was and I said I didn't remember at the moment and he said he doubted someone could be invited to a seminar and not recall the date. Then he asked the name of the event and I couldn't recall it exactly either so I gave him the subject matter. He said they had no such event booked at the hotel. He was acting all squirrely and suspicious. In the end he told me to submit a written request to his e-mail address. So three e-mails and three phone calls later and I still cannot get an answer to the simple question of do they post 30.06.

I sent him the requested e-mail request along with a copy of my confirmed reservation for the Seminar, a copy of 30.06 and a copy of Chap 2155. No response yet.

If they do post 30.06 I will cancel my seminar attendance and tell the sponsor why I am doing so. It is one of those give a little knowledge and try to sell you something events so maybe the sponsor will care.

Soooooo... if it turns out they do post 30.06 and as it is not on their web site as required by law, to whom do I complain so they can get their $100 citation and all the hassle that goes with that??
