No slight intended or offered to the OP, BTW. It's ready to fire when I'm ready to use it - that's the (conservative) gun safety that I was taught... And I know I'm in the minority on this forum.
Minority or not, you are doing what you need to, to be safe...that I respect.

My brother lives in a " safe" neighborhood...

That being said, as soon as I get comfortable in his house, I disarm and go to his "safe" closet and disarm arm and secure all weapons.

There is a balance between being armed and being responsible. The line is drawn at a personal level.
When there are kiddoes running around, I don't dismiss my "right". I do what I think is right, period.
