I am a regular user of both the fanny pack and the "photographer's" vest when I carry. When I observe other folks similarly attired I always use Schrödinger's cat. Until you open the theoretical box, both propositions, gun/no gun, have equal weight.
As an aside, since I've not seen one worn over the fanny in an urban environment in 30 years, why don't we call them groin packs?
When I wear my skirt I call it a sporran. And yes, the 3" 1911 fits in a daywear sporran perfectly, with room for an extra magazine.
