Just my opinion, but I can't see comparing the Hutaree case with Demetrius and it's aftermath. They were charged, whether spurious or not, arraigned, freed upon making bond, tried and found not guilty of conspiracy and sedition. 2 members were convicted on weapons charges and sentenced to time served and 2 years probation. Unjust sure, comparable no.VMI77 wrote:You don't have to cross the Atlantic for an example......how about Michigan Militia (not as many, and they probably had a warrant, though it was based on bogus info). These days the FBI just makes up whatever it needs to get a warrant, so I don't think a warrant is any impediment to rounding people up on spurious charges.Dadtodabone wrote:Come on ya'll!
This isn't Nazi Germany!
Are you really worried that a "Modern" Western Democracy could arbitrarily turn on a disfavored domestic political group, claim they were "Terrorists", launch a military operation at 4:00 am, arrest, without criminal warrant, 342 men(the total would climb to 1,981)and hold them with out trial for years?
No charges were brought before or after The Interment began. The UK and Ulster government just thought it would be a good idea to round these folks up. The British Army wound up occupying Belfast and environs for 27 years, more than 3500, soldiers, cops, provos, uvfs and civilians died. There were more than 45,000 wounded. Tens of millions of pounds in property was destroyed. Hundreds of millions spent to support the Army and RUC.
