Re: Bales Gets LWOP
He may of had issues because of his service that contributed to this crime. If he had not volunteered to serve I doubt he ever would of hurt anyone but while he may deserve some sympathy it doesn't excuse his actions and certainly doesn't make it the victims fault.

Children in their beds look like terrorists? Bales was pretty clear he was guilty.Oldgringo wrote:How does one tell an Afghan civilian from an Afghan terrorist, don't they all kinda' look alike? Weren't there similar situations and conditions in Viet Nam?
He didn't "think" they were bad guys, he didn't do this in the heat of battle, he just walked into a village one night and started offing people. Then went back to base, told someone who thought he was lying, loaded u on ammo then left base to go shoot up a different village. For some reason he seems to have chosen women and children as his preferred targets. In his testimony, Bales called the killings an "act of cowardice, behind a mask of fear, bulls--- and bravado." He said he can't comprehend the loss suffered by the families of those killed, saying, "I think about it every time I look at my kids." Bales added that he was upset with himself over his anger and his excessive drinking.
