Re: "30 Days" Season 3, Episode 5 - "Gun Nation"
It is very watchable. Anyone who knows the facts will not find it terribly slanted (Pia's [the gun control woman] beliefs are terribly slanted by ignorance and fear but this is not allowed to stand completely unanswered.)Russell wrote:I don't think I could watch it. It would make my blood pressure rise too much, honestly.
The RKBA and firearms enthusiast is knowledgeable, articulate, and a patient respectful listener when the gun control spokespeople are abusing the facts. He avoids all the bad stereotypes by this method alone. He appears to be the range or safety officer at his club shoot, he has a CHL, he never forces anything upon her but uses facts and logic.
It is not a hit piece. They probably did edit out many of the RKBA enthusiasts responses to some of Pia's illogical emotional appeals, but not to the point you can say they sabotaged the RKBA position significantly, just omissions.
If you wish to see a REAL example of someone suffering from clinical hoplophobia (fear of firearms) there are several in this piece however. The most remarkable one is the first time Pia fires a gun, a shotgun. She breaks down at the mere sound, and thought that she might be killing by doing this -- she is not hurt -- she is having a visceral phobic reaction to the SOUND and the IDEA.
In other scenes she states explicitly that she thinks of the horror of people being killed EVERY TIME she hears a gunshot.
This is not the word hoplophobe being throw out carelessly at a gun control advocate but a real psychological neuroses and/or phobia. This is a form of (minor) mental illness.
There are other examples as well.
Watch it. It is interesting.

Yes, and he was knowledgeable -- leading me to guess that they didn't include his answers to many of the unanswered points. He was a respectful listener too, so it was common for them to show him just listening in an understanding fashion, without the rebutting the misunderstanding or repeated propaganda. My guess is he did have and then offered those answers but they didn't make the cut.lagomorph wrote:I think it was really pretty fair. I posted a similar thread -- not seeing this one -- at about the same time, with the times this will repeat this week.KBCraig wrote:![]()
I set the tivo for this one. I checked just now, and it didn't record.
The 18 year old daughter and I will be having a conversation that wouldn't pass the 10 year old daughter rule.
