That's great on keeping in shape. I've gone to work 4 12hr days and I don't go to the gym on work days, too tied. I work 4 on and 4 off night shift which is ok but I would rather have consist days off vs rotating days. Other then that glad to see you're doing well.1s1k52 wrote:Hope everyone is doing well. Training is going ok. Before anyone ask I was off duty when our headquarters was attacked. I didn't think morale here could get any lower, but I was wrong lol. Departments not doing any kind of proactive advancements on securing our stations or anything. Aside from the normal life struggles I just try and get in the gym as much as possible and pretend I know what I am doing. I have got my mile down to about 8-9 minutes without being out of breath much at all. That's a big deal to me considering I started with only being able to run a mile in about 11-12 minutes at best but completely smoked afterwards.

Re: Starting Police Academy
You can get it for around $800-850 from Top Gun Supply with your LEO discount. I chamber a round then de-cock it and holster. The first trigger pull is DA unless you pull back the hammer manually. After the first shot the hammer is cocked back and in SA. Only way to run it DA all the time is to de-cock it after every shot. The trigger pull in SA is short and smooth.1s1k52 wrote:Nightmare69
I use our issue DAK Sig 226. To use anything else you have to buy it. A class mate bought a SA/DA for about 950.00 at discount. To much moving functions for me. I don't want decockers and all that. When we qualify you have to run it at re double action stage etc.

Someone posted this video of a DPD officer being called a racist for arresting a black male. I did not know yall had a segway patrol.
Warning: Language
Kudos to the officer for keeping his composure.

Re: Starting Police Academy
Do you have to complete your reports before you go home each night? We do and sometimes I'm in the office half my shift on the computer. Fun fun.

Re: Starting Police Academy
That is the reason big departments are not my cup of tea. They seem to wanna dictate every aspect of your life both on and off duty.
I have to use whatever I buy and my department supplies the ammo. I like it cause I can buy what I'm most comfortable and effective with. My AR-15 is the coolest in the department.

Re: Starting Police Academy
Does DPD provide a compact firearm for concealed carry? They cannot expect you to conceal your full size duty gun. I also carry the Sig 226, is yours the double action only or double/single action?1s1k52 wrote:Training is going..ok..I guess. My current trainer tells me to drive the opposit way when something serious comes out. Soooo needless to say I am being trained by the finest. We sit in the car a lot and do nothing.
I do traffic stops and 9-10 times I don't write a ticket. Not really why I signed up for this gig. My previous trainer was a lot more proactive thank god.
Wife already hates my current shift (nights) can't blame her. So last night she text me saying she is scared to be home that late by herself all night but doesn't want a gun I told her I'm not going to push it on her. Last thing I want is her with a gun she doesn't know how to use. I even told her about the new Glock 43 but no dice. So then I come home and find all 4 locks unlocked on the back door. Yup 4 of them 2 deadbolts, security latch, and the door knob lock.
On the subject of concealed carry I struggle to conceal this sig 226 appendix. I go back and forth whether I should just carry a glock again so I am at least armed with something more comfortable and concealed. Hope all is well with everyone

Re: Starting Police Academy
I didn't dictate anything. I'm willing to wear whatever they provide. I however am not willing not able to purchase a full leather duty rig. I'm sure Dallas provides everything but your underwear while small departments like mine provide shirts.mojo84 wrote:Yeah, most new employees don't have the luxury of dictating to their boss what they will and won't do. Complying with the dress/uniform code set by the boss is usually a basic requirement of being employed.

Re: Starting Police Academy
I wear nylon due to the cost and comfort. When I went to work for my department the Chief said he didn't like the look of nylon cause it looks too "tactical". I said I will wear whatever the department wants as long as they are willing to purchase it for me, never heard another word. Im not about to drop a grand on a leather rig just because the dept doesn't like the look of nylon.1s1k52 wrote:yeah can't do basket weave. I can barely get away with the STX stuff. It is supposed to be plain black smooth leather, BUT I see tons of tactical models around because no one wants to fork over an extra $50.00 bucks for the leather.A-R wrote:Keep checking eBay for Safariland duty holsters. Bunch of basket weave no light 6360 Sig holsters under $50 right now. But w/ light will pop up sooner or later if you keep checking.
I am hoping to get one for about $50.00 and sell it for roughly that later. I see them go for that price all the time I just can't seem to jump on it when it does.

Re: Starting Police Academy
For me I've carried in a few hospitals, court houses, (jury duty) schools, etc that are off limits.1s1k52 wrote:You shut your mouth when you're talking to me!Keith B wrote:Sure they do. If you are carrying under authority of Subchapter Chapter 411 Government Code, then it applies to you. An example would be if your department only allowed you to off duty carry your specific type of weapon you carry on duty, then you could carry a different type of pistol with your CHL and the signs would apply.1s1k52 wrote:OH and nanna nanna boo boo 30.06 signs no longer apply to me!!!
I never really went anywhere anyways that this would help me. College campus maybe but even then it was rare.

Re: Starting Police Academy
Didn't you have a guarenteed job at DPD or are you looking for something closer to home? Forgive me if this has been answered already. DFW has plenty of great departments to work for. As for as at will, try sherrif departments, most big PDs are all now civil service.1s1k52 wrote:Spanish final. Defensive Tactics final, and some scenerio finals are left. Getting mixed information on what happens if you fail them. Considering I dont plan to fail any I try not to pay any mind to it. I went to apply for Mckinney and they closed job opening. I would like to know if anyone wants to explain how to find out if the agency is an AT WILL. Only one I know for sure in my area is Frisco.
The main drive for me looking elsewhere isn't money as much as insurance. Pay about 550 a month for me, wife, 2 kids. We cant go to the doctor for less than 100.00 and that isn't including prescriptions. Daughters antibiotics were 75.00 this weekend.
Thats the only other update really I guess.

If you would like a good TCOLE test review let me know. Our review was 95% word for word.1s1k52 wrote:Survived the driving school. Survived being pepper sprayed. Which was the most horriable thing. We had to get sprayed then basically do 3 fighting scenerios after it was activated. We have our DPD final next week and TECOLE test the following week after that. Hope all is well with everyone.

Re: Starting Police Academy
Give someone your phone and get a video of you being tased, its fun to show your friends and family. ASP day is fun, wear athletic tape on your knuckles. Great job on the range. Have you gone through CCP and Juvenile law yet? Those test were tough for me. Glad to see you're still haning in there. How many more weeks till graduation?1s1k52 wrote:I was saying I was told the .357 compared to the 9mm. Not the 9mm included in running poor in Glocks. Baton day tomorrow. 8 hours of it. They shut the doors and raise the heat to mid 90's. Taser is next week.
