Ching... A little friendly advice. Don't think you can predict when trouble will find you.Even after I get my CHL, I don't think I'll carry to work. I just don't see the need.
Probably the only time I'll carry is traveling to unfamiliar areas of town
There are a lot of people that would not consider carrying at "safe" places such as your office or church. The problem is there are very few "safe" places. What I'm discovering is that you never know what is going on in the lives of those around you (coworkers, etc.) that may bring trouble to your door.
Two real examples:
1. A coworker of ours in San Antonio lost his wife when she was murdered in her real estate office in the middle of the day. A coworker of hers was going through an ugly divorce and the husband came in and shot the wife and others in the office.
2. A member and employee (cleaning staff) of our church was telling my wife the other night that her oldest son that just got out of jail, came by and started a fight with her and the rest of the family. It came to blows and threats were made that he would kill at least one of them before he went back to jail. He also said he knows where she works (our church) and to watch her back.
Had my wife not been told this, I would have no idea what possible danger myself or others could be in if he showed up. And there are many more people out there with volatile domestic situations that you aren't aware of.
Regarding being in familiar areas. People tend to let their guard down in familiar surroundings. Add that to the fact that you are not armed, and I dare say you are in more danger than if you were armed and in a unfamiliar setting and on alert.
The bottom line is stay safe and don't gamble with your life.
