I get the critique on the verbiage. Noted for any future occurrences. It was just my mindset of trying to scare off the persons, but words matter & choosing wisely is important.
I thought it strange as well that all three aglommorated near my front door. But then I also think of how uneducated I was prior on recognizing threats and how ignorant I was on how to not portray myself as a threat, especially at an officer.
The car started right up without the cop providing a jump. I have it on camera. Honestly I was a little peeved that no ID was requested by the officer.

Knock on door at midnight
Last night 'bout midnight, I hear knocking on the front door. I wake up my wife tell her to go look at the video camera feed on the monitor in the master bedroom closet. My wife tells me there are three guys. I unholster with my G17 and am at the ready. We all sleep upstairs. I'm at the top of the stairs and shout "get off my porch". Someone responds "we need a jump". I reply "you don't want what I can give you". I then tell 'em to leave again. In the meantime wife calls the local PD about the incident.Guys get ready to leave and popo pulls up. I see the entire thing on my video cameras. To my surprise, the cop doesn't ask for any ID of the persons. He let them go. Maybe he knew one of them? Looking at the video I didn't recognize any of them from our immediate neighborhood. Having spent time learning better decision making about these types of situations I put into practice a lesson learned that I experienced a few years ago when someone knocked on my door at 10pm and I haphazardly opened the door without paying attention. I was pretty disappointed with myself then for allowing my guard down and potentially putting my family in danger.
I do get conflicted though. I am more than happy to help someone. However I also have a responsibility to protect my family. I don't know if these two mind sets are mutually exclusive but I have a hard time seeing how they are not. Maybe I'm just risk adverse.
