I think that's why half of them run, they have zero intention of winning.

Re: Can Beto O’Rourke really beat Ted Cruz?

Senator is a state-wide office...so is Governor. Senator Cruz won by a rather small margin; Governor Abbott won by a sizeable margin. I think the difference between the two races highlights that Texas is still a very conservative state, AND that Senator Cruz was late "getting into the game" against Robert O'Rourke, especially considering the amount of money poured into the state for ol' Robert.

Think about this. Republicans not only retained the Governorship, but also Lt. Gov, and all the other top-level statewide offices. Do not forget that this was a mid-term election, and historically, the party NOT in power takes often large numbers of seats in mid-term elections. I'm not saying this was a great outcome, for our state or nation, but it could have been a LOT worse compared to how things have occurred HISTORICALLY. When the 2020 election comes, people really need to pay attention, and get to work early to make sure that those lost seats are recaptured.

Re: Can Beto O’Rourke really beat Ted Cruz?

Lots of discussion about why to vote for someone or why not to vote for someone. The primary focus of this forum is firearms. The primary focus of how I vote is firearms, specifically if a candidate is pro-or-anti Second Amendment, and not simply offering lip service about hunting, etc. If a politician doesn't believe that I, an honorably "retired" USAF veteran with ZERO criminal record, can own whatever firearms I so choose to own, then that tells me how they see me...as a subject to be ruled over. If a politician does believe that I can own whatever firearms I so choose to own, then that tells me they see me as a citizen with inherent rights enumerated in our Constitution, in this case the right to keep and bear arms. Everything else, for me, flows from that viewpoint. In the here and now, the politicians that tend to respect my right to keep and bear arms are generally in the Republican Party. I understand that Libertarians also generally respect that right, as well, but they just cannot seem to build up an organization that can win. I like some of their ideas, but those ideas are useless if they cannot attain office, and all they end up doing is "helping" an anti-2A Democrat to take a particular office. With those factors in mind, I will be voting for Senator Cruz.

To the best of my knowledge, I don't have any liberal friends. Some moderates, I guess you might call them, but no liberals.

Unlike Obama, that guy isn't coming out of the "Chicago machine", and thus hiding what he's done in the past will be much more difficult.
