The events that occurred in the past, while we can easily look back at them and say whether we would or would not want to repeat events of those types, have to be taken in the context of the times. So, for instance, explorers taking land away from others might not seem like something we want to do to others, but in those days, its just how people lived and operated. So many cultures and nations have done that time and again throughout the world's history. But remember, leftists, especially those who subscribe to the tenets of Marxism, want an "end to history". They want everyone to be "just the same"...they want only one world-wide culture...they want an unchanging society...they are, to sum them up, anti-human...no matter what they say about themselves. Human history isn't pretty, for certain, but it is what it is...
