She took her Calculations test and made 86, she also passed the physical, so she starts a week of orientation July the 8th.
She is excited, me not so much. I never wanted her to work outside the home, however our daughter is in college now and son is in middle school so this is probably good timing. I wanted her to have a good paying job in case something happened to me, I have 500k life insurance but that does not go far these days, plus I could be injured and it would be her salary we would live on. So all in all I think its wise, and she will be a great nurse
Thanks for warrior support

Re: Wife looking for Nursing Job in Houston
Now we have a new issue, her blood pressure is high, she had some meds a while back and tried them but it is still to high. So goes in next week for a two part physical so this might be a problem. I think she needs to contact a good doc right away and get this undercontrol before next week.

Re: Wife looking for Nursing Job in Houston
Flint, I think you are correct, many of her classmates , young pretty things got hired before they even passed the boards and even after they failed the boards. I am not sure why this is the case? My wife is more dependable and most likely will not change jobs till she retires, she will pursue a MSN as well so she could go into teaching. She only has had one boyfriend in 20 plus years ME her husband and father of our 2 kids
I told my wife "The Fat lady has not sung yet" so we are waiting for her start date.

BTW Susan Cooley is VP of Redi Clinic a division of Memorial Herman, so this is what it takes sometime just knowing the right person. Gayla could have pursued this months ago but thought getting a job would not be this hard.
Anyway, thanks for the support and prayers from this group

Re: Wife looking for Nursing Job in Houston
thanks and yes belowVenus Pax wrote:A friend of mine works at St. Luke's The Woodlands as a mother/baby nurse. She hasn't said that they are hiring, but has told me before that they are short-handed. Next time I talk to her, I will ask her if they are currently hiring nurses. Is your wife an RN?
She has a BA from Baylor, BSN from U of H, and is a RN ( passed boards) Summa cum laude with a 3.85 Gpa
Maybe someone knows someone, she has had only 2 interviews in the past 4 months since she graduated

Re: Wife looking for Nursing Job in Houston
Thanks for all the good replies fellow CHL's
First of all I really like the travel in a motor-home approach, I wish I could retire and could if my wife was Nurse anesthetist, or Nurse Practitioner, but I have an eleven year old so that might not work although both our kid were home schooled for several years. She has thought about going and getting a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner masters deg
She did interview with Memorial Northwest yesterday and also got an email from Denton Cooley's daughter who is trying to help as well, along with his Daughter in Law who both are involved in Nursing at a high level. One sent a email to the CEO of Herman who is a friend.
What is frustrating is TX children's should have hired her right away. She is a speaker for Children's Miracle Network on behalf of TX Children's, along with being co-chair of the Parent advisory committee for the Hospital and the Chief Surgeon Frasier was my sons heart surgeon 11 years ago and Gayla's cousin was in the same fraternity as the CEO Mark Wallace
Were are also looking at Colorado Springs![thumbs2 :thumbs2:](./images/smilies/thumbsup2.gif)

Re: Wife looking for Nursing Job in Houston
I agree, its not all Obama's fault, Hospitals have had budget cuts, donations are down, government support is being cut. Nurses who were going to retire put it off for a few more years. However the schools are continuing to push students out the door. Good news is the predicted demand is high in a aging population.
Its just my wife is very smart, and good looking, and has a way with baby's and children, (she put up with me for the last 20 years)![Smile5 :smilelol5:](./images/smilies/smilielol5.gif)

Re: Wife looking for Nursing Job in Houston
Thanks, but again all the positions require 1-2 years with some as much as 5 yearsTxRVer wrote:Things have really changed in nursing since the economy went south. Just a few years ago hospitals were paying huge sign-on bonuses. My wife is a nurse with the VA and said you can check http://www.usajobs.opm.gov/ for openings in your area. Results there may not be any better though. I can tell you that the VA has great benefits. Plus she'll be doing a good thing for the people that are serving our country.Bill wrote:Thanks but she has applied at most every Hospital along with sugarland, there are tons of jobs but very few for new nurses. You just about have to know the HR person personally.
