in the turbo world they are, to a certain extent. some back pressure is needed to prevent to much turbo lag.KBCraig wrote:"6 inch turbo back" pipes?9mmGuy wrote:well, as it is not my truck i cant prove it, but thats what he told me. it is a 7.3L, with 6 inch turbo back, chip, blah, blah...![]()

Maybe it's working for him, but bigger pipes aren't always more efficient. Very few automotive exhaust systems do anything to eliminate standing waves and actually tune the exhaust system. They could stand to take some lessons from the motorcycle world.

My F250 turbodiesel achieved 22 mpg once, usually 18-19. highway unloaded while maintaining 600 degF exhaust temp which is the 7.3 most efficient point.

my boss has a turbo diesel F350 and gets about 25 mpg on the highway. just cause there big does not mean they aren’t efficient.KD5NRH wrote:Base it on person-miles/gallon:boomerang wrote:I think it's a good idea to allow motorcycles in the HOV lane if the goal is to reduce congestion and save fuel. Maybe we can get the laws fine tuned even more. If a little Honda Civic needs two people to use the HOV lane, maybe Suburbans and Expeditions and Hummers should have at least three people.
Economy car - 30mpg, 1 person = 30 p-m/g
SUV - 15mpg, 2 people = 30 p-m/g
F350 - 10mpg, 2 people = 20 p-m/g
No reason the Accord should be kept out of the lane when the trucks get to use it.
