Courts have to date refrained from holding public school officials to a functional custody standard of responsibility for protecting children in their care and custody from third party actions such as presented at Sandy Hook.

A reasonable expectation exists post-Sandy Hook that responsible school administrators NOW have a duty to protect the children consigned to their care and custody with active security counter-measures (armed security) to back up passive security systems (locked doors).

We may casually interpose terms like "RIGHT" with terms like "reasonable expectation" but the result is still the same. Public school officials NOW have a clear duty to provide on-site armed security to protect children who themselves have no say in the matter of their school attendance.

School officials who stubbornly reject any form of on-site armed security meassures in the aftermath of Sandy Hook are climbing out on to a very dry and lonely limb.

It is an individual choice - limited, or enhanced by each family's particular circumstances and PRIORITIES - but a choice nevertheless.

When parents delegate the RESPONSIBILITY for educating, AND ENSURING THE SAFETY of their children to ANY educational environment - they have the right to expect that assumed RESPONSIBILITY to be diligently PERFORMED with the SAFETY and best interest of their children the FOREMOST PRIORITY of those so entrusted.

Curriculum deficiencies can be compensated for in the home environment.

The responsibility of PROTECTING the children WHILE AT SCHOOL rests squarely, and unequivically UPON THE SHOULDERS of the school authorities.

The falsehood that " Nothing could have prevented the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary " is sadly still being disgracefully asserted during some school board meetings by the very people responsibile for providing effective security to ensure that such a tragedy is never allowed to occur again.

Children can recover from dificiencies in the quality of educational instruction.

They may not recover from ANOTHER such "copy-cat" tragedy that is PERMITTED to happen IN THEIR SCHOOL due to the lack of due diligence by school authorities in seriously, and promptly addressing the IMMEDIATE need for effective armed protection for the children entrusted to their custody, and care.

This is a serious question - When families visit the Gulf Coast do reasonable parents allow their young children to venture out into the surf beyond the "safe zone" generally considered to be too shallow for bull shark predation ?

Informed parents will not.

Yet the vast majority of parents continue to patronize a public school system that harbors drug dealers, child predators, rapists, armed robbers, murderers, kidnappers, random bullies, and is staffed by employees represented by educator associations publicly at odds with our constitutional principles.
