Joining this thread a little late but I used to be in the "tell the owners of the house you enter" because I thought it was respectful of their castle. I have since learned that it's best to just keep your mouth shut unless you want them deciding how to best defend yourself when you're coming over to their residence. I guess I have learned that my life is more important than their personal thoughts regarding guns. For this particular person they made it abundantly clear that guns were not allowed in the house after I informed them so I had to routinely disarm in a parking lot and walk in a dimly lit area to their place. It got old really quickly...

I'm now in the camp that if my gun is a problem in your house then I don't want to be in your house nor do I want to be your friend.
