I was at Academy just a little bit ago and the place was slammed. Most of their Glocks were sold out and the rifles were thinning by the minute. I had to ask for .380 ammo and he had to crack open a box to get some. It was the busiest I've ever seen it.

Why the military doesn't use them I don't know for sure. I have read that the drum magazines are not as reliable - maybe they don't meet mil specs. They are probably uncomfortable and heavy to carry. It could also have something to do with logistics - I would think a drum magazine would be less efficient to package/crate/store and ship than flat magazines. Probably one of the active or ex-military guys on the forum will have a better answer.
It's all about weight, space and cost.
