Thanks to everyone who came. We had a great time. And I got to try one of the rifles I had wanted to try for a long time, an AR-10. Besides the shooting, we got to socialize quite a bit. And to those who were unable to make it, I am sorry you missed it. We won't hold it against you if you start planning now to attend the next time.
The general consensus was we need to do it again, but in October. It was just a little bit too warm today. I almost burned my hand when I picked up one of my pistols I had left on the table in the sun for a while.

Re: San Antonio get together
Works for me. We will plan on still meeting at Kreuz's and see what happens from there.
BTW, believe it or not, I really could not find a small Texas flag. Well, at a price I could afford, anyway. Everyone stocked up for July 4th already, and that does not include Texas flags. I was able to pick up some small US flags, so the table will be marked by US flags instead of Texas.

Re: San Antonio get together
Wow, that is bad news.
Quick poll:
Do we still meet at Kreuz's and see then about the range
Do we change the location to a different restaurant and range?
Do we change the date to June 25?
I would still like to go tomorrow, and can see changing to another location. My first choice for a quick change would be Deitz's, but I think we might overcrowd it with all of us showing up. Their rifle range has plenty of room, but their pistol range only takes about 10 people on line at a time.

Bring family and guns
Do I have all of this correct?

Right. We are meeting at Kreutz's Barbecue at 11:00 and should get to the range about 1:00. I think I have a way to make it easier to identify us in Kreutz's. I will get a small Texas flag on a stand and put it on the table. Look for the Texas flag at the restaurant, and then again at the range if you don't get to eat with us. I will also try to get some "My name is" type stickers.
Now watch me not be able to find a Texas flag in a small stand.

Re: San Antonio get together
That is a good idea, 74Novaman.
If you plan on attending, please list what you are bringing that you don't mind sharing. This gives people an idea of what they might want to experiment with and lets them plan on what ammo they need to bring to test things.
And if you don't want to share, that is completely understandable also. I know people who consider their guns and their motorcycles very personal and won't share either. But they would happily loan out other things to friends, so we understand this. You are welcome to come with your guns just for yourself, guns to share, or no guns just for the camaraderie.
But if you could start marking who is coming and how many, we can get an idea of what we are looking at and let the restaurant and range know.
I will be there with my daughter (18) and my son (11). I have a few friends not on the group that I am also inviting and will post how many when they let me know.
I will have a Ruger 10-22, Cricket, and Marlin 15Y rifles (all .22LR). The Marlin and Cricket are youth models, while the 10-22 has a collapsible stock and can fit either kids or adults. I will also have a Taurus 1911 (.45acp ammo), Glock 22C (.40S&W), Browning Buckmaster (.22LR), Ruger P90 (9mm Parabellum), and North American Arms Guardian (.380 acp). You may feel free to try any or all of these, and I recommend the Buckmaster for any kids or beginners who are new to pistols. And if things go well, I will probably have a revolver in .357/38 spl to try also. I am looking for the right one at the right price now.

Re: San Antonio get together
Cool C-dub. I will have the rifle and even an 18-year old daughter to help her out. My 11 year old son will be there also, though he has commented that he is not thrilled with the idea of barbeque first (McDonald's was his choice of restaurant).
And we will figure out a way for everyone to recognize us at the restaurant. I just don't know what it is yet. I have to stop in Kreuz's one of these days to see how it is laid out (never been there yet). But I was thinking some kind of sign or flag that everyone could see where we were at. Might make it easier than a badge or sash. The tiara would stand out there though.

Re: San Antonio get together
Ok, from everyone's post, it sounds like we can agree on Lone Star in Lockhart for a decent midpoint for Austin and San Antonio.
I was thinking of a Saturday in June, and I currently like the 18th with the 25th as a rain date/backup/second choice.
We can start at 11:00 at Kreuz's and then go to the range, or we can start earlier and go to Kreuz's for lunch afterwards. Meeting at Kreuz's might be a little easier for people to find since it is right on the highway. Of course, anyone is welcome for the shooting or the lunch if they don't want both.
Family is encouraged, as I will have at least two kids with me, my 11 year old son and 18 year old daughter (yeah, I still consider her one of the kids - much to her chagrin). I have a few spare kid's rifles if anyone else brings younger shooters. Single shot .22LR for the kids, and I think I have three or four I can bring.
Unless there is a lot of opposition posted, I think I will take Bullwhip's advice (at least up to a point - I am willing to change) and say we should plan on Saturday, June 18, Kreuz's at 11:00, followed by shooting at Lone Star.

Re: San Antonio get together
Thanks, I had forgotten about Bracken's per gun charge. Cedar Ridge does sound good too.
So far, the most votes seem to be for Lone Star in Lockhart. I know that may be a little far to drive for some in west San Antonio or North Austin though.
Does anyone really prefer someplace else or should we assume Lone Star and start picking a date?

Re: San Antonio get together
Sounds like we have enough interest, especially if we make it in June and try for somewhere between the two cities. The ranges I know of that are between the two are in Lockhart and New Braunfels. I might include Bracken on the far north side of San Antonio as in between, but then I guess we should put Red's on the south side of Austin in there to be fair.
Any other ranges that people know of that are easy drives from both cities?

San Antonio get together
In another thread, someone mentioned going to San Antonio for a vacation. The idea of a get together came up, and it has been some time since there was a San Antonio area outing.
Is there interest in a San Antonio or San Antonio/Austin area group outing? Depending on who wants to come may make a difference int he range we choose. Lunch afterwords, including either a restaurant or picnic type lunch at the park need to be considered.
Any interest? Any ideas? Pick a date (wgoforth can add when he is coming into town if he wants).
