City ordinances are class C misdemeanors. Municipal Courts have no jurisdiction to hear higher offenses.
If you did not fight the ticket in San Antonio, you would be out money and have a weapons conviction on your record.

You missed that Section 46.02 also mentions only handguns for being carried unlawfully. In general, a long gun is not illegal to carry in Texas.
