1. I am disappointed in Cruz. He should have been smarter and either refused to attend or go ahead and endorse Trump. However I didn't hear a single bit of criticism of Trump in his speech. The call to vote your conscience was the only thing that could have been objectionable. I found that laudatory rather than objectionable.
2. Reagan's speech in 1976 was no more or less an endorsement of Ford than Cruz' speech was of Trump. In fact Cruz repeated Trump's themes in his speech including building a wall and fair trade rather than free trade. I thought he was actually going to endorse Trump as I was listening.
3. Reagan did nothing after the convention to campaign for Ford. I have long held him responsible for Ford's loss to Carter. It was a very close election and if Reagan had campaigned at all for Ford, Ford probably would have won.
4. The difference between 1976 and yesterday was that Ford welcomed Reagan trying to patch up the differences whereas Trump played Cruz, organizing the boos and refusing to apologize for the lies he told about Cruz' wife and father.
5. Trump did not win the nomination by historic margins. He had the lowest percentage of voters in any Republican primary since Nixon.
So again Trump engages in division rather than seeking unity. He again has moved me away from voting for him.
BTW I hate this election

Re: Republican Convention: Cruz supporters planning trouble?
As I have said before, I hate this election and I still haven't decided how I will vote or not vote.
We had 17 candidates to start with. One of those, Chris Christie, I wouldn't have voted for because he is a Democrat in Republican clothing. A second, Ben Carson, I admire as a man but just didn't think he had the right makeup to be a good President. I could have supported any of the rest of them, other than Trump although early on I would have even supported him. In the primary I supported Cruz although he was not my first or even second choice but was the best left standing.
BTW, I don't think Cruz has much of a future in Republican presidential politics. He has already done way too many things to anger the Republican establishment and if Trump doesn't win, they will control things again in 2020.
Now we are left with Trump, a man who is completely unfit by character and speech to be President. The only thing I see in his favor is his family although they were primarily raised by their respective mothers not their father. Moreover if he acts as President as erratically as he speaks, he could start trade wars that will sink not only our economy but the world economy and could even result in war with China, Russia or both. Finally he seems to want to negotiate with the Democrats on a wide variety of issues and in the past that has only meant caving to the Democrats.
On the other hand, we have Hillary who is also completely unfit to be President by character, positions and track record. Moreover she has blood on her hands from her handling of Libya, Benghazi and her emails, would nominate Supreme Court judges that would kill our Constitution and Bill of Rights over the next 25 years, would continue the racially divisive language and actions that has resulted in an open season on LEOs and would kill our economy through regulations and spending to say nothing of her desire to kill the 2nd Amendment. So there is no way I could ever vote for Hillary.
So I either don't vote for President or I vote for Trump. I have moved closer to voting for Trump because of Pence, his potential picks for the Supreme Court and my view that Hillary can not be allowed to be President. And everytime I get about ready, Trump does something stupid like attacking the hispanic judge, accusing Bush of lying on Iraq (when in fact Trump has been lying about the position he took on Iraq), etc.
So I guess I will wait to see how the rest of the campaign unfolds.
BTW if Hillary wins, it will be because about 35% of the voters through the primary in Indiana voted for Trump. That BTW is a lower percentage than any Republican nominee since Nixon's run in 1968!
