Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
Given all the hate aimed at GZ, I expect that sooner or later someone is going to kill him.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
Watching the prosecutor today, it is clear to that Zimmerman made at least two mistakes.
He shouldn't have gotten out of his truck.
He shouldn't have talked to the police without his lawyer present.
Not guilty but the last one might get him anyway!

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
Way back in this thread I said that this was a situation where a gansta wanna be met with a cop wanna be leading inevitably to the death of one of them. I haven't seen anything to disabuse me of that belief.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
As I pointed out about 30 pages ago, GZ's getting out of his vehicle was bad tactics. But that makes it neither legally wrong nor morally wrong. GZ had a home in that development and had every legal and moral right to be on that sidewalk.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
That is a ridiculous and completely uninformed article.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
speedsix,
You are confusing tactically wrong with morally wrong. It was tactically wrong for Z to get out of his truck. He however had every moral right to get out of his truck and go for a walk in his neighborhood. He had every moral right to be a better witness and find out where the suspicious kid was going. Whatever his training, it was tactical training that he was breaking not some kind of moral law.
Would Martin be alive if Z didn't follow him. Probably. But then Martin would also be alive if he had gone home instead of confronting Z.
However neither was morally wrong until one or the other started the fight. And apparently the only evidence we have on that is Z's testimony given that the charging officer testified in court today that the prosecution had no evidence to contradict Z's account. Z's testimony pretty clearly says that Martin started the fight. At that point, he was in the moral wrong.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
If the proscutor isn't going to the grand jury, that probably means she is going to indict Zimmerman for a lower level charge, maybe something like manslaughter.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
Both of them had plenty of chances to avoid this. It isn't at all clear to me who started this. Zimmerman's statement can be taken as self-serving. Martin's girlfriends testimony isn't very clear and at this point could be pretty well coached. None of the witnesses appear to have seen the start of the fight. And who started the fight is all important.
Frankly it appears to me that this was a thug wanna be meeting up with a cop wanna be. I don't think either of these guys is the good guy; rather they were both doing the wrong things. And because of that it was almost inevitable that one or the other was going to end up dead or seriously injured.
What is absolutely despicable is the incitement to racial hatred by most of the Black establishment including the President, Congressmen, Jackson, Sharpeton and the New Black Panthers.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
No offense but all you really have is the eyewitnesses. The testing you are raising is inconclusive, does not prove anything. The eyewitnesses agree that GZ was on the bottom calling for help. This is not really a fact in dispute.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
The eyewitness testimony probably trumps any voice testing anyway. So not sure that voice testing on the 911 calls would even be considered relevant or come into evidence in a trial.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
I think Zimmerman got the benefit of being seen as a good guy by the police. He called in reporting a BG and was part of neighborhood watch. So the LEOs saw him as the good guy. Massad Ayoob has written about this effect and I believe Charles in class mentions it as well.
So one lesson here is that if anything hinky is going on call 911. It may help you be seen as the good guy if something happens. As this situation demonstrates, that is a huge initial advantage.
