You are correct!

Colt 1902 Sporting, .38 ACP. Left the factory in 1907. My Dad bought it from the owners widow when he was a teenager.
Maybe it was the angle when the picture was taken. but that "lanyard hook" looks a lot like a magazine release, before they moved it up on the handle in later designs...

I don't see much difference between the 1900 and the 1902 then...

Same style cut of the hard leather grips on the two versions...

Still, that is a fine collectors piece! Lucky!!! ;-)
