Re: HOW HIGH MUST THE BODY-COUNT GO?

If I am willing to stand in harm's way to protect them, why can't I have the tools I need?
trogdolyte, you raise an interesting legal point:

It is long settled that the police have no duty to protect you or your students. By depriving you of tools of defense or restricting their availability and application, The State has created what is known legally as an impossible condition. You are entitled to default on any obligation of a contract governing that particular aspect with no penalty in such circumstances. Seems like this is legal justification for the possession of any self defense mechanism, although it has not been tested to my recollection.

A classic case of the impossible condition occurred not to long ago where a young woman, previously denied a concealed carry permit, was later raped while defenseless after calling the cops during the incident. I cannot recall the case particulars.

Of course, it is a vested interest of government officials to prevent a breaking of the social contract. They could all lose their retirement benefits, and have to get real jobs like the rest of us.

Re: HOW HIGH MUST THE BODY-COUNT GO?

Charles can rewrite the opening sentence any way he wants, but my point is only that it must be grammatically correct or a busy editor may not get past it. Charles may indeed be correct, however, if the first sentence is simply over my head. That wouldn't take much. :confused5

Re: HOW HIGH MUST THE BODY-COUNT GO?

Charles,

If you are going to submit your essay for publication elsewhere, you should correct your opening sentence to read, "There are many issues on which reasonable minds may differ." Or some other grammatical construction. Otherwise, an excellent piece. I suggest you offer it first to the Houston Chronicle as a guest editorial and counterweight to the anti gun diatribe of Chronicle columnist Lisa Falkenburg. :rules:

Re: HOW HIGH MUST THE BODY-COUNT GO?

The body count nationwide is high enough now with the last shooting at Northern Illinois University (five dead) to initiate self defense curriculum at the high school level that encompasses handguns. To those who oppose it, I merely ask, what good is the sex education commonly taught nowadays if students may not make it to reproduction?
