Dear Governor Perry:

I would like to voice support for the letter written to you on May 28, by Charles L. Cotton in reference to critical NRA gun rights bills.

I salute your courage in calling this special secession even as I am saddened by it's necessity. I want you to know that your tireless efforts are having an impact. As incalcitrant as most Democrats must seem from you vantage point, it is possible to reach some of them. I am living, voting proof of that. You see, I voted for President Obama in 2012. But the President has broken faith with me. He led me to believe that he would pursue a moderate course. Instead he has pushed a liberal agenda that goes well beyond bordering on socialism. And to my surprise I find those Republicans, of whom I was so fearful two years ago, to be standing at my side fighting for the same constitution I am. The concerns I continue to have over some Republican platform issues, pale in comparison to the abject terror I have of the agenda being pushed by the man I voted for. While my core values have not changed, I now find that the Republican party represents those values more than the Democratic party. And I will do what ever I can, in my limited way, to rectify my error in the 2014 and 2016 elections.

I do not believe that I am alone in the the political slightly left of center. I know of several people who like me, think of themselves as moderate (Reagan) Democrats that are suffering buyers remorse. I believe that we are a small, but possibly crucial number. We may well represent the margin that carried the President to the White House in 2012. It's a margin his party is unlikely to have in either the 2014 mid-term elections or the 2016 Presidential election.

While I have no doubt you would have continued the good fight solely on principle, I hope you find encouragement in the certain knowledge that your efforts are bearing fruit.

Sincerely, your constituent,

Guy B. Wheatley
Texarkana Texas.
