Traffic stops often result in tickets and fines, which make up a large chunk of revenue for city or county. Cops are pressured one way or another to produce revenue, although this fact is usually denied. Also, traffic stops and tickets are indicators that cops are performing. Having worked at a coun...

Thank you for your reply. You made valid points. One thought is that there still remain gray areas about chl issues, and hopefully these will clear up before too long. About attorneys: the client should be prepared to spend thousands of dollars to present a case that would otherwise not bring in big...

About unlawful searches...some--maybe many--occur because of officer error caused by poor training. Administrator or managerial incompetence, low morale, low pay, and low hiring standards all impact this issue. My opinion is that these negatives are more likely to be found in a large constable depar...

game wardens

Game wardens receive super strenuous training similar to DPS officers and probably leave their academy with a really gung-ho attitude. I know of instances locally where DPS troopers have issued traffic tickets to off-duty cops from other agencies. I know that these folks have called the local sherif...

felon and guns

The man belonged to an archery club. Personality differences with another member over club politics prompted the other guy to notify local and federal law offices.

Hard heads.

Take it from an old teacher--the woods are full of bone heads. That's why I believe: If you try to teach a pig to sing, you waste your time and annoy the pig.

Weak ammo

I've shot a lot of ammo that was at least 45 years old and could discern no problem. This stuff was military "surplus" from the 1940's and 50's. About this guy,.., he was probably playing with it. I don't buy the AD caused by a dropped pistol.

felon and guns

I'm a layman, but...my knowledge of this question is up-to-date because of a gun-buddy friend who married a felon. The feds say no guns and no access to them. So, a gun safe keeps everybody out of trouble including the lawful owner, who might otherwise be charged with allowing access. I know of one ...

Colt revolver repair

Talk to Teddy Jacobson in Sugarland. Phone number is 281-277-4008. Call after 10 a.m. Teddy is now semi-retired because of health issues. He is a tad cranky, plain spoken, and one of the best pistol smiths in the nation. The man is a perfectionist with outstanding skills. Your Colt will be in the be...

Rust prevention

Rig Gun Grease has been an old standby for decades. Its purpose is rust prevention and not lubrication. Wipe it on and wipe it off. Of course, a protective film remains. Its the best I've ever seen, and I'm old as dirt.

.45 recoil

Perceived recoil from the xd may be softer because of the very slight flexing of the polymer frame. The shape of the grip in the xd is more rounded at the back; also the xd's tang area lacks the grip safety and is more gentle than the 1911's. Thus, there's no biting of the web of the hand. Which gun...

Recently, a central Texas grand jury indicted a chl holder for carrying in a 51% type bar. Oddly, he was also an instructor of chl classes. Allow me to restate the obvious: each of us--because of our licenses--has an obligation to obey the letter and spirit of the law and serve as good examples to o...

I'm an old, shell-shocked teacher who spent most of his career in a large
urban inner-city high school. I retired when I got too old to fight.

A supervisor used this term about me bcause of my tendency to raise questions that were not answerable with politically correct hype.

fingerprints

The company's procedure is that the prints are sent up the line to a processing center and then mailed to client. Mine were mailed from Springfield, Il. I had assumed one day service. This outfit has a deal with the state and probably will become the only game in town. The local law here will no lon...

About error on fingerprint cards

Today I received my fingerprint cards from Integrated Biometric Technology for chl renewal. There was a typo(320 instead of220) in the weight category. I called the chl DPS folks in Austin and was told to correct the error with WHITEOUT. The IBT above is associated with Identix. MY prints arrrived t...
