The rounds were all new. I managed to shoot the rest of what I had without any additional incident (other than soaking) & no damage. I've since gone back to shooting wwb.

I was shooting my s&w shield 9mm and didn't want to buy a box of new ammo but i had a box of perfecta 50 rds and a box of lawman 9mm that I have had for about 8 years. It was from when i bought my first gun. and then sold it, but kept the ammo. so I went to the range with 100 rds. the lawmans work just with a lots of sparks
I doubt it. Freedom hasn't been around that long.

Re: Freedom Munitions Ammo Issue

Somewhat of an update. Since today was a pretty miserable weather day, I decided to do some cleaning. Lo and behold! When I took the slide off of my Glock (that I was shooting in Thursday night's IDPA match), there was a pretty good amount of grainy material in the rear section of the slide. I tried to take a picture, but either it was too dark or too light to actually see the grains in the pics. So based on the links and other info that was provided, I'm inclined to think that the batch of New 115gr 9mm FMJ has some sort of powder or load issues that's causing the sparks. I still intend to try some more of it at the range so that I can look at the fired casings.

All that being said, is there a danger issue that I should be aware of? I don't intend to use the ammo that I have for anything other than marksmanship practice - measured & controlled shots, no double/triple tap, etc.

Re: Freedom Munitions Ammo Issue

Thanks everyone. To clarify, I was using FM new. I've been tempted to try the reman. But the price difference is negligible, especially when the new is on sale.

Re: Freedom Munitions Ammo Issue

I didn't think to look at the casings. I still have the rounds that I planned on shooting last night. I may take them to the range with me this weekend to take a closer look.

Re: Freedom Munitions Ammo Issue

Thanks Bitter Clinger. I was hoping that it was just a powder issue. It was a little unsettling, but glad to see that it's not something major. Most of the replies on the linked forum thread say powder & it's no big deal. Others that said it was a big deal didn't provide any other information.

Re: Freedom Munitions Ammo Issue

"How bad were the sparks?"

After the 2nd round, I was being called Sparkler. It was very significant. Everyone from all angles were able to see them.

Freedom Munitions Ammo Issue

I was shooting the indoor IDPA match at Shiloh last night using my Glock 17 with new Freedom Munitions 115gr. When I'd fire, sparks would come out from behind the chamber and possibly from the end of the barrel. I shot the first stage then ran a bore snake through the barrel a few times. The same thing happened on the 2nd stage, so one of the guys in my squad lent me some Fiocchi 124gr to finish the match. The Fiocchi shot clean (no sparks). I shot other brands (WWB & Fiocchi 115gr) on Saturday and Tuesday through my Glock with no sparks.

I googled 'Freedom Munitions ammo issues' and 'sparks from ammo' with no relevant results. Anybody else have or hear of such a thing?
