Just as 'Pro Choice' is a euphemism that shields the proponents from the truth of what they're really advocating (killing children), 'Pro Life' doesn't do justice to my belief that we as a society should not allow the slaughter of innocent babies to continue. I see no difference between a baby that has yet to be born and my almost-1yr old son. Both require extensive daily care in order to survive. Neither can be self-sufficient for years. The only difference is in terms of developmental milestones that each have achieved and the length of time until they are able to survive on their own.The Annoyed Man wrote:Opponents to the pending bill wish to preserve a system in which fully formed humans—who are no more dependent upon the medical support of a critical care unit than any post-operative heart transplant or brain surgery patient—can be killed in the womb for the sake of the mother's convenience.

Isn't there a third reason?ScooterSissy wrote:My biggest problem with the idea of Perry as a presidential candidate is that I would prefer Ted Cruz.
My biggest problem with the idea of Perrry as a VP candidate is that I wold Prefer Ted Cruz as the presidential candidate, and the P and VP can't be from the same state. One of them would have to change their home state, and I suspect that wouldn't work out as well for them as it did for Bush/Cheney.
I'd rather see somethign like a Cruz/Rubio ticket. My dream team would be Cruz/Rice.
As far as Perry, he's been a decent governer, but it's time for new blood.
Seriously, though. Ted Cruz is (so far) a great senator for our state. I'd like to see him gain some seniority there for a while before moving on.
A second potus run for Perry wouldn't go so well. While his first stab at it was brief, he provided way too many sound bites. And 2016 will be a fight on both sides of the aisle making the last election seem like a Sunday picnic.
Rubio was on a solid track until the immigration derailment. I'm curious to see how he plans to recover from that. A lot of folks from Florida aren't real happy with him right now. But I think it is recoverable.

Re: Perry announces he will not seek reelection
Dewhurst blew it when the world was watching the state Senate a couple of weeks ago. The GOP leadership had no post-filibuster plan, so they were too disorganized when the 3rd point of order was upheld. As he presides over the senate, the blame lands squarely on him. The demonstrated lack of ability has me looking for another successor.fickman wrote:I prefer Abbott, but I have come way around on Dewhurst in the last year. I think he heard us during the Senatorial race and has increased his combativeness, candor, and has a lot more fight than he used to show. He found his voice.
I don't think he's a RINO. I think he was viewed as too accommodating or soft and has responded to correct this image.
Let's watch how this next special session proceeds.
I think he can still do us a lot of good from the right positions.
