Re: "Waiting Room"

:thumbs2: Congrats texasdjg! It's a great feeling to know that there's at least one more of "us" out there!

Hang in there McKinney. Check the DPS site once per day (pick whatever time you like best) & then prepare for when you actually have plastic in hand. Research the Wally-Walk, research concealment, run through various 'what-if' scenarios in your head & research other people's experiences in similar situations, practice carrying at home, run through some dry-fire practice sessions at home, get in some range time, and so on and so forth. There's lots you can do in preparation. I did a lot of this very same stuff & I firmly believe that it kept me from going bonkers during all the waiting.

Re: "Waiting Room"

2mos is way too long for a background check unless you have some sort of criminal history that requires further documentation. But if that was the case, someone from DPS should have contacted you long before now. It could be a situation where your file was assigned to someone to process and that someone left before finishing and DPS "forgot" to reassign your file. That's been mentioned here & on other forums a couple of times. You definitely wouldn't be out of line to call. Good luck & hope you get a quick fix & finish!

Re: "Waiting Room"

I found the wait time to be more beneficial when I researched equipment (belt, holsters, mag carriers, etc), conceal tactics, dry-fire practice routines, pistols, and anything else I could do that would prepare me for the day when I finally had plastic in-hand. But ymmv. Good luck to you & congrats (again, if I've already extended congrats to you) on taking the action to excercise one of your constitutional rights.

Jeff
Thanks Jeff, now i'm really discouraged!
I sent my packet in the week after you. I was hoping the status would be updated this week. Guess not. :cryin
I have been checking 3-5 times/day. I'm the optimistic type. ;-)
I think the DPS only updates the site once per day. Not sure what time. I used to check it in the morning.

Re: "Waiting Room"

Waiting for the online status to update is the clunkiest part of the process. I sent my packet by certified mail, so I knew when they received it. But it still took a couple of weeks for my online status to update to "Received & Background Check under review". Then it took several more weeks for the status to update to "Background Check complete, Manufacturing". If you're like the rest of us, you'll get really good at signing into the dps website & you'll probably have your TXDL number memorized by the time that your plastic is in hand.

Good luck & God speed!!!

Re: "Waiting Room"

Received this on 8/20 in response to an email that I sent to TXDPS through the website
Dear Applicant,

Thank you for giving the Department the opportunity to respond to your email question regarding a Texas Concealed Handgun license.

Once documents are received by the department, they undergo processing before being entered into the system for the applicant to track. Please allow more time for your record to reflect the receipt of documentation. Right now, it takes 3-4 weeks before we can see a status of the paperwork you mailed in to us. The overall processing time for new applications is 60 days, and 45 days for renewals.

Should you have any additional questions or need further assistance, please contact Concealed Handgun Licensing Customer Relations at 1-512-424-7293.

Regards,
Darrell
Customer Service Representative
Still no change to my online status. So far I'm not doing very well at this waiting thing.
