If he should return to the vehicle without you, then he would technically be in control of the vehicle and firearm and wold be in violation of the Gun Free School Zone Act without a Texas CHL, but if you are always in control of the firearm or it is locked in an uninhabited vehicle, then no issue.
Yes, I think you pretty much nailed it here.

I am riding with my dad to the game. I am planning on leaving my gun in his glovebox during the game. We are both exiting the vehicle and watching the game together. As soon as we return to the vehicle, I am going to put my gun back on my hip in a holster. This is perfectly legal, right?

Re: CHL Question

Yeah that makes sense. I'm not too worried about it. I know that the parking lot is not included as part of the premises of the HS stadium. The gun will be holster on my hip before we get to the game and immediately we leave. So, it really should be a non-issue. I don't know of any statute that prohibits carrying a gun in another persons vehicle as long as they don't have a 30.06 decal on their window  ... right?

CHL Question

Ok.. so.. here's the deal. Later on today I will be attending a High School football game. Now, I understanding that the law prohibits carrying at any HS sporting event... so I will be leaving my CC handgun in the car. This is where my question comes in:

My dad will most likely be driving me to the game. I will have no other choice than to leave my handgun in his car. Is this legal? I can't think of a specific statute where this situation is mentioned. This may actually be a dumb question (the first one i've ever asked )...Can someone fill me in....?
