Re: Call your State Rep
I had a problem with my initial application for a CHL because 30 years ago someone with pretty much the same name had been arrested in Amarillo, a city where I've never spent any time. It's pretty easy to prove who you are but proving who I wasn't to the DPS turned out to be another matter. After se...

Re: Taurus TCP .380 - your honest opinion
Read this before you purchase a Taurus: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=57130" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I bought one and wish that I had not. Better no gun at all than a gun that might or might not fire.

Taurus PT-138 PRO product review
The last week of April I purchased a new Taurus PT-138 PRO from an online seller. A week or so later it was transferred to me by a local FFL holder. A few days after that I took it to the range (cleaned and oiled first) and experienced a number of failures to fire. Gun goes click, off center firing ...

Re: Car Carry - Transition
I have a lock box cable mounted to the seat frame for when I have to leave a weapon in my vehicle. It won't stop a determined thief with the tools to breach it, but the garden variety window smasher wouldn't get into it. When I'm driving I like to lay it inside the center console. I can retrieve it ...

I'm done in here
I got my CHL in the mail today so I'll be leaving the waiting room. It took a while because of a legal issue from 1981 that they wanted complete documentation for. The documentation they wanted doesn't exist after all of these years. I don't know for sure what finally broke the logjam but things sta...

Re: Update to unacceptable
I checked on the website today and the status of my proof of special condition is good to go now, so I guess they liked the second DD-214 I sent. The only thing left in red is the review of my background check, and I don't expect any problems with that. Looking forward to being licensed.

Update to unacceptable
I got a letter from the DPS today. As some of you said, they want a copy of my DD214 that has my type of discharge on it (or another 70 dollars). I didn't think that I had one but did one last dig through the papers in a filing cabinet I haven't looked into in years and I found what they want. I sca...

Re: Unacceptable!
Thanks for the response v-rog. I've never been arrested and I'm no crazier than anyone else I know, so I didn't check any of those boxes. The copy I have of my DD214 says Member-1 at the lower right corner and does not, indeed, specify what type of discharge I received. I guess that's the problem. I...

Unacceptable!
My status was updated online today and it all looks good except for one thing. It says "Proof of special condition unacceptable. Notice sent to applicant." The only special condition I can think of is my status as a veteran, and I sent a copy of my DD214 with my packet. Anyone else experie...

Re: New Taurus PT 138
And to follow up on my last post, I got the Butler Creek Baby Universal Lula Pistol Loader today, and I should have ordered its big brother. The Taurus Millennium .380 magazine is too thick to fit into it. I wish that it was listed with actual dimensions online instead of just by caliber of ammuniti...

Re: First firing of Taurus PT 138
Just curious, if this is the first firing, other than trusting "its a new gun", how did you know it would fire, and properly. How did you know the sights were proper, etc? Sorry, I guess I don't understand never using your gun before your class, and I am not trying to start an argument, j...

First firing of Taurus PT 138
I went to my CHL class this morning and got to fire the new Taurus PT 138 for the first time. We fired 50 rounds for the class and I stayed after and fired 100 more. Out of these, 2 of them failed to fire, even though there were solid impressions on the primers of both failed rounds (Remington BTW)....

Re: New Taurus PT 138
Back to the OP, have you tried again to fit that 12th round in? Just tried again and still can't get number 12 in. Oh well, I have two magazines, and if 22 rounds won't get me out of trouble, 24 wouldn't either. I did order a Butler Creek Baby Universal Lula Pistol Loader and should have it tomorro...

Re: New Taurus PT 138
Hehe...I remember that in basic training they made sure we knew that the NCOs in the range tower were armed, just in case someone did something stupid.74novaman wrote:Kind of like riding a bike, you don't forget little things like the fact you shouldn't point the gun at your fellow students on the range.

Re: New Taurus PT 138
You said you haven't fired this gun...do you have much experience shooting pistols? Thanks for the reply. My training and experience with firearms was in the U.S. Army, but that was a long time ago. I was qualified as an expert marksman on a number of different weapons, including the .45 service we...
