Re: Combined 30.06 and 30.07 sign
I appreciate all the responses. For the most part, they confirm what I had been thinking: 1) The sign probably isn't compliant or enforceable. 2) OC'ing past the sign would still be foolish, because it would result in an immediate verbal notification. 3) CC'ing past the sign is probably fine, but th...

Combined 30.06 and 30.07 sign
Today I noticed the following sign at my doctor's office: 20160121_115102-1.jpg For those unable to view the picture, the English text reads: "Pursuant to Sections 30.06 and 30.07 Penal Code (Trespass by License Holder with a Handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Governme...

Re: Is requiring a permit to carry constitutional?
Regarding the original question, I think it depends on the permitting process itself. In my opinion, the way we do it in Texas is constitutional. The process of obtaining a CHL is designed to ensure that (1) you're not a criminal, (2) you're not mentally unstable, (3) you're well-informed about the ...

Re: Campus Carry -- Where Are We Now?
Bottom line is this: some presidents will overreach, some won't, and this overreach will be contrary to the legislative intent. It can be readdressed in 2017 by the legislature (after having a year of good results at other schools to stand upon). Regarding the legislative intent, I definitely saw t...

Of course! Because now 18-year-olds will be bringing their fully semi-automatic weapons to class, right?NotRPB wrote:Tweets by the uninformed are so funnythat's just incorrect@wickedmetro 20m20 minutes ago

Re: Campus Carry -- Where Are We Now?
I'm glad to see this pass the Senate, but I'm a little confused by the provision that institutions may declare "certain areas" off-limits as long as they don't totally ban carry. Couldn't university officials simply define "certain areas" to include classrooms, offices, and the l...

Every time I have been to Choctaw Casino I have just locked it up in the car.
I am a little perplexed by the blanket "no guns on property, period" statement. If memory serves me, last year sometime they had a gun show on property!

Re: Have you told your church security guards?
Like some of the previous posters, I attend a large church with a pretty well-organized security team. Security knows me because I have played in the band for years, so they know that I'm "okay" to be on the stage and back in the "secure area" where the pastors and guest speakers...

I'm a university professor, so that's a no for me. Hopefully one of these days we can get campus carry passed.

Re: Failure to Conceal?
I am amazed by this discussion. We've pretty well established that the statute prohibits a non-CHL from carrying a handgun into a friend's house, even with his permission. For a CHL, you may carry into your friend's house, but it must remain concealed, even if he's okay with you taking it out. Based...

Re: Baylor Medical - Physician Office 30.06
I see the Spanish translation is a lot better also. The usual Spanish on a 30.06 sign completely omits the word "concealed" (oculta) and makes general references to all firearms, not specifically handguns.

Re: carry ar the fireworks show?
You're not in a school building. This is not a school athletic event or any type of school function. IANAL, but I don't see where you would be breaking any laws if you have a CHL. That said, if you do carry, conceal well, because there might be some LEOs who aren't up to speed on the legal definitio...

Re: Who has authority to ask you to leave?
any one that directly works for the church and is an employee of the church has the authority to ask you to leave and that includes security guards that are hired by the church. You might want to clear it up afterwards or not go back but if asked to leave you must or take a chance of getting arrest...
