Re: Newer NSSF data, Buy a gun, get trained...

Thanks for locating this. I posted the 2011 version, but hadn't seen this recently-released update covering the data through 2014.

Powerful stuff. And easily assimilable in infographic form. These are the kinds of visible facts I think we should have at the ready, especially when we're faced with someone spouting (false) leftist rantings about escalating gun violence. Kudos to the NSSF for compiling this.

The original PNG is 12MB: pretty hefty. I've taken the liberty of compressing it to a 2.1MB JPEG, without changing the image dimensions or any of the content.

Those versions are 1,500 pixels wide by 6,497 pixels tall...suitable for printing, but perhaps too large for viewing onscreen. I've resized a second JPEG version to 800 pixels wide by 3,465 tall; still completely legible onscreen, but a little more monitor-friendly.

Here are links anyone can use to view the images; right-click and select "Save As" to download a copy to your PC:
Quick key points (but the trending graphs are even more powerful):
  • Since the early 1990s, homicides, other crimes, and accidents involving firearms have decreased dramatically--a trend that a majority of Americans say they are unaware of.
  • Since 1991, homicides with firearms are down 43%.
  • Since 1993, all other crimes with firearms are down 70%.
  • Since 1993, cumulative firearms to market are up...wait for it...over 1,400%.
  • Since 1994, unintentional firearms fatalities have decreased about 60%, and is down 82% from the high of 3,200 in 1929 and 1930.
  • Gallup polls indicate that at least 41% of Americans say they have a firearm in their homes.
