Re: Introduce yourself

DLawrence wrote:I know I can carry my gun in the car but wondered if I can use a locking holster mounted between the drivers seat and my center console. I have a locking drawer under the passenger seat- too difficult to get if needed - and glove box too far away ( okay I'm short ) haha

If it's locking but still basically visible would it be legal?
Hi, Donna, and a great big welcome to the Forum.

You've had two good responses. With your license, you can carry in a vehicle on your person if in a belt or shoulder holster, whether concealed or openly visible. With or without your license, the handgun cannot be readily visible in the vehicle if not on your person. But you may carry it--again with or without a license--anywhere in the vehicle so long as it is not visible.

Liberty's towel trick will work just fine to conceal the handgun the way you described you'd prefer to have it in the vehicle. And secured, as you described is a very good idea: some folks will set a gun on the passenger seat and put a towel (or cover of choice) over it. Legal, but not a good idea if you have to hit the breaks.

And, yep, we have categories--or subforums--for questions where you'll get a lot more eyes and a lot more informed responses. We even have an area dedicated to women and any particular issues, techniques, gear, or questions they have as handgun carriers.

As one of your friendly neighborhood moderators, I'm leaving these posts here, but I encourage no one else to respond to the question in this thread so that we can keep it focused on introductions.

And to close in that vein, welcome again. Texas has made great strides over the past decade in increasing the number of women who choose to get their LTC, but it still isn't good enough. I'm thrilled every time I know another woman has decided to get her license and be armed. I hope your daughter considers doing so as well.

Re: Introduce yourself

Welcome to the Forum, Wysiwyg101. And congratulations on your decision to get your CHL. If you update your profile to let us know what part of the state you live in, you might get some offers to meet at a range and let you shoot some of the pistols you're considering. We're a pretty friendly bunch. ;-)

Re: Introduce yourself

Welcome all!

Stan, I gotta ask: How did you, a former Texan, give Minnesota the nod?

BTW, just to rub it in, December 30 in Houston will see a low of 40, a high of 65, with partly cloudy skies and no forecast of percipitation.

Thanks for your service. And are you sure you don't wanna come back? ;-)

At least I can say welcome everyone!

A big, flag-wavin' welcome to HEMIzygote (does that refer to your truck or X-chromosome?) and hivel37. Hivel37, I'm countin' multiple calibers, so you'll find some kindred spirits here who feel that if you don't own ordnance to fire a baker's dozen of different calibers, then you need to go out and buy more guns. ;-)

Welcome to the Fun Zone, David and NivekAsh! And check the topic about the 2007 Texas CHL Forum day at PSC. They have a lot of acreage, so I know they can hold a whole bunch of us next September. Try to make it, if you can.

And welcome to a great 2007!

I'll take that under advisement. Ahem. But will at least send you a housewarming email once you get to Texas. ;-)

dallas_drummer: Darned good to have another working musician on the boards. Casselthief can use the company. ;-)

tallmike: Welcome. I'll be at the Venetian for a few days starting Feb 18; maybe we can hook up if you're still in town.

Oh, and Vegas ain't exactly my cup o' tea. I'll take the Texas Hill Country anytime. The move? Good decision.

A big, post-Christmas Day activities welcome to Txroadcyclist, trueno, Armybrat, srothstein (thanks for sticking around), and Dirt Dauber. I'm a semi-newbie myself, but do tend to get...er, loquacious from time to time.

Very glad you're here, and I look froward to your insight and experience.

Welcome, wrightbrothersmom!

Listen closely to llwatson. Despite the huge finger-splint on her trigger finger, she really knows what she's doing. Really. No, really!
