I don't think the laptop is needed, but you might want to take it just because you want the option. I stayed at the Comfort Suites and liked it a lot. It is a gun friendly hotel and you can get the DPS discount if you ask and tell them you are attending the class.
I will take in just incase.I also booked my room at the comfort suites, it was an excellent room rate in my opinion.
I am a bit nervous about the qualification after reading some of the post but I don't believe the pressure will get to me! Any ranges near by that I may be able to shoot the night before?
I am only having to redo the shooting because I had a poor revolver to do the target shooting with and I majorly psyched myself out. I shot at a range that week in Austin but I went right after class and got stuck in rush hour traffic in Austin and as far as indoor ranges go it was not wonderful. I worked but I wish I had not spent 1 1/2 hours in traffic to get there.

Do they allow laptops in the classroom, or is it even worth using? Guess it's the recent college graduate in me that wants to take my computer to "class".
I will try to get in contact with Crossfire if she doesn't contact me shortly.
Our class was so full there really was not any room on the table for a computer. The binder they give you will have everything you need in it.

I will be shooting my Glock 22 and my colt diamondback 38. I noticed in a previous post that y'all refered to "Marty" for glock work. I am needing to get a new set of sights and possible a bit of trigger work done on my glock. Can you pass on his information?
Also what is the lighting like at the DPS range? I have heard it is a very nice facility, I just have been practicing with my revolver at a indoor range and it tends to get a bit dark and hard to see front sight at 15 yards. I was thinking about putting a little bit of white out on my front sight but don't want to ruin the blueing on the gun.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
I can't help you with Marty's info but the DPS range is an outdoor range so whatever light mother nature gives you is what you get. It will be super hot! I am doing my reshoot with the instructor class on July 27th I am shooting at 8:30 with the 2nd group so if you are in that group I will be there!

Went out with the new Ruger and the borrowed S&W and ran 50 rounds through each one at 15 yrds to see which one I do better with. The Ruger won by 41 points. The Sights on the S&W need to be adjusted.

Marty doesn't work on Rugers for other people. Just Glocks. And it's not like that gun needed a lot of help, anyways. Just a little smoothing out. Her's will probably be just fine, right out of the box.
So, great choice, mamagamber! We wish you the best of luck with it!
Thanks! Went out to shoot it tonight and I cannot believe what an easy trigger pull it has. Also borrowed an older S&W and it is a very smooth trigger pull. Going to shoot all week and wait to see when I can get back over to shoot and pass that test.

You own both a Chiappa Rhino and a Mateba Autorevolver? Those are two of the craziest revolvers ever made! You have something against plain old, normal, everyday revolvers?
Really, I wish you were closer to DFW. I have a Ruger GP100 that has been to more instructor schools than I have, and no one has ever failed to qualify with it. It has a great trigger, and is well balanced. This is what you need to be looking for. Something tried and true and easy on the hands.
Good luck to you! You can do it.
HAHA I have a crazy husband and both were his idea!

Dont let the nay sayers depress you. Get some help, pass the test, practice til you are at the top of your peers.
His "opinion" doesn't bother me. It is his opinion and he doesn't know me or how well I shoot. He read a couple of posts and decided to make a uneducated statement. I can and WILL get my instructors license. Putting people down is no way to make friends. I have a lot of friends on this board and I have not met a single one of them but I know they are pulling for me.

I have two quick comments.
1. If the gun worked the same as it did last week and the week before that, it's not the gun that failed.
2. I know many students who scored more than 90% the first time so I worry if an instructor can't.
Thanks! I appreciate your support!

sjfcontrol wrote:mommagamber wrote:That would be nice. My hang up on it is that in double action it has such a hard trigger pull. Gonna try to practice with cocking and shooting in my allotted time.
Really? I'm surprised! Why would it need a heavy pull if the recoil cocked the hammer and turned the cylinder? If you're going to have a heavy pull, you might as well go double action.
In single action it is a very light trigger pull it is double action that is the hard pull. Once you've shot that first round in double then the recoil takes over. SO every time I had to reload then the first shot would have to be double action or cock then single action.
I hope I am making sense I am so emotionally and physically spent tonight I can't think straight.

Let us know if they allow it.
Right! There are only 1600 of them in the country and hubby has 6 and 8 inch barrel for it. It is worth a pretty penny. May have to pay for our retirement. It is so funny when hubby starts to explain how it works to people they look at him like he is crazy.
