If a bar strip bar is BYOB than they don't serve any alcohol. At least not in Houston, or the BCS area. Their are a couple reasons why they do this. First in Houston the "entertainers" can wear less than at a establishment that does serve alcohol. Additionally the private dances cost more. The way that works (usually) is that you can only get a dance is in a private room, or a VIP area. The bar usually makes the girls rent the room for use the same way a barber shop makes a barber rent a chair. They have to do this everytime they go in there not just rent one for the whole night. Sometimes the club will just have a VIP area that you have to go into and pay $20 or so for entry directly to the club. At a regular club that serves booze the girls just have to pay to dance for the whole night (usually $35-$50). Also if the club doesn't serve booze it's dancers (at least in Houston) don't have to be licensed.
Now here is my advice.... Stay away from these establishments. As a result of the less clothing rules and the fact that you can drink on the cheap their are a lot more problems at these bars. Your bachelor party needs to stay out of trouble for the grooms sake and believe me these bars have a lot of trouble. Now some will say that any of these bars, not just the BYOBs, are trouble and and I won't argue that. Additionally most all of these bars have metal detectors at the door so don't plan on carrying a pistol, knife, or anything else like that.
My advise:
- It's legal but plan on not carrying a pistol. Most have metal detectors and won't let you in. Some will over react when their metal detector makes a big beep.
- Stay away from the BYOB places. The extra amounts of alcohol combined with the less clothing equals more trouble (every night at these places). This one is for your safety and for the happiness of your groom.
- Have fun but try not to get any private dances. They are the easiest way (in my opinion) to flush money down the toilet. I also suggest not drinking as the bars that serve usually charge something in the neighborhood of $7 for a domestic bottle of beer. Their goes that trip(s) to the range.....
- Pick a designated driver/moral protector. This guy needs to not only drive but keep everyone out of trouble. If you MUST go hit a bar before hand and have your guys do most of their consuming their and then go to the gentleman's club (I hate that they call them "gentleman's" club by the way...) Once they are at the gentleman's club they can have a few drinks while they enjoy themselves. Since they stopped drinking and the chairs there are so comfortable they will get sleepy and will want to go home and be better rested for the big day.
Just my advice. Take it or leave it.
