This kind of thing wouldn't have flown in the 70's. We were not yet politically-corrected to death, and were still taught lessons about self-reliance and personal responsibility. My kids are younger, but old enough to know what's going on and draw their own conclusions, so we talk about these kinds of things and other current events and politics over our family dinners. Thankfully my boys seem to have their heads in the right place.
