I'm pretty sure he's not talking about politicians, just people in general.

Look at the presidential elections. How many of the self-identified conservative voters will vote for someone who supported gun bans and championed socialized medicine in November because they think he's not as bad as Obama. Meanwhile they'll attack and insult fellow conservatives who propose to vote for a conservative instead.

THAT'S how socialists have come to dominate political discourse in this country when they are such a distinct minority.
