I'm a northeasterner by birth too. I'm in the North Dallas area and I find it a very gun-friendly community. You just can't beat the weather either. I haven't seen a 17 degree below zero or worse day in the 14 years I've lived here. It doesn't get much below 20 degrees on a bad day. If you haven't experienced tornado warnings, then that takes a little getting used to but generally it's over as quickly as it started. Texas hospitality is not a fable. Wherever you decide to make camp, I think you'll love it here as much as I do.
