Re: FN Herstal 5.7 Pistol
Fully loaded you could tell it weighed more then my brothers Glock 17 fully loaded! Incorrect. The Glock 17 empty w/ magazine: 25 ounces The Five-seveN full (20 rds) w/ magazine: 26 ounces And the gap keeps widening as you start to fill the G17 with ammo. One round of 9mm weighs twice as much as on...

Re: FN Herstal 5.7 Pistol
2300 fps, but only about 340 ft/lbs due to small bullet. Better than that with the P90 carbine, of course. You can get similar cover-defeating penetration in a much less expensive package with the CZ vz. 52, which uses the 7.62x25 (aka .30 Tok.) cartridge. Usually available for less than $250 and i...

Re: FN Herstal 5.7 Pistol
I really agree to this not being a good CCW. Large and long, but with 20+1, I sure would not want to face one. I understand that due to the relatively light projectile, and the amount of energy, many if not all of the shots would cause a great deal of tumble. I may have been dreaming, but I thought...

Re: FN Herstal 5.7 Pistol
It is actually the gun Major Hasan used to kill 13 of his fellow soldiers at Fort Hood acouple of years ago. Very good but expensive gun. As suggested, it is essentially a tweaked .22 magnum which would be quite a bit cheaper. I am sure it will kill people. A .22 long used to be the weapon of choic...

Re: FN Herstal 5.7 Pistol
The FN shoots a very fast bullet. I think it is basically a 22 mag. For CCW I do not know about that. I believe it has only about 225 ft/lbs of energy which puts it on the very low end. Less than the 9mm and less than a .38 special!! The cost of ammo and the cost of the weapon is kind of expensive....

Re: FN Five Seven
How did that lady cop at Ft hood stay standing after multiple hits with it? Where was she hit? She didn't; she was hit in the thigh, knee, and the hand (shrapnel from a 5.7x28mm bullet hitting the drain pipe she was hiding behind. Here's a more comprehensive recap on the exchange between Hasan, Off...

Re: FN Five Seven
...would the 5.7 round remain stable or would it tend to tumble and bounce around in the body, creating more punctures? I haven't read any detailed accounts of why it is so effective at stopping humans....but at those high speeds, hydrostatic shock injury could be a part of it...has anyone here see...

First, the general mod warning about personal attacks - not allowed. You may disagree with the post, but you may not attack the poster. Now, taking off the mod hat, a reminder that, although the FN 5.7 may be a great carry gun, you cannot use it for CHL qualification, as it does not meet the minimu...

Re: FN Five Seven
Correct, the Five-seveN pistol is no better choice than a 9mm, .40S&W, or 45ACP, but it does have some advantages. Namely; it will hold 21 rounds in a flush-fitting magazine or 31 with an extension that measure 1.5 inches, It is the lightest full-size pistol in the world, it will easily penetra...

Re: FN Five Seven
I have been carrying a FiveseveN as my Monday-Friday carry for a while now. I use a crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe. It conceals fine, but I don't tuck it as it causes a bit of a bulge, but with an untucked shirt, it hides easily enough. I like the 5.7 caliber personally, but I understand it is not for...

Re: FN Five Seven
I have one in my safe (not mine though).I think it is too big for CC, at least for me ( I CC a 4" 1911). I also believe that it has way too much penetration and does too little damage, kinda like an ice pick in flesh. I shot this thing completely through a 4x4 post so I doubt meat will even sl...

Re: FN Five Seven
I am not for sure how good they are for cc. They do look interesting. Shot one at Bass Pro hat belonged to someone else. There is a lot of reading out thers on the Five Seven. Positive and negative. Gun-Tests magazine did a comparison between the FN5.7 and the Keltech PMR30, and they decided that t...
