This is another really GLARING aspect of this whole foofooraw, that anti-gunners just seem oblivious to. None... NONE of the gun laws and reforms they're screaming for would have ANY effect whatsoever on mass killings. None. Zero. Zilch. At the same time, they turn a blind eye (and a deaf ear) to things that WOULD have an effect, such as stricter requirements for reporting criminal records to NICS. It boggles the mind. These people have been brainwashed ten ways from Sunday.

And what's sad is that as a result of their misdirected hysteria, more innocent people will die.

Re: NRA vs CNN Tonight 9PM

It goes on. 1,800 children a year die from physical abuse. That's a Stoneman Douglas shooting every 3 1/2 days. Where's the outrage? Where are the town hall meetings? Where's CNN?

Re: NRA vs CNN Tonight 9PM

All day today, it's been about teachers being armed... they're showing hysterical teachers crying about how they went to college to become a teacher, not a soldier, they don't want to stand in front of a classroom "with a gun in my pocket," and they're so upset they're shaking and weeping. And of course the "experts" are saying armed teachers would be dangerous, because they're not trained, kids could be killed in the "crossfire," and SWAT teams would rush in and not know which one is the killer, and so on.

And of course they're sound-biting Wayne LaPierre's speech, just showing the part where he says, "the elites want to eliminate the 2nd Amendment, and then eliminate all of our freedoms" "they hate freedom..." etc. which makes him look like a paranoid lunatic. I think he went a little too far with that sort of thing. And the way he constantly guzzled from that water bottle looked horrible; why couldn't he use a glass?

Re: NRA vs CNN Tonight 9PM

Last nights event is all over today's news, of course, but it's interesting that there's not a single WORD about the problems with the NICS database. The Sutherland Springs church shooter (26 dead), Devin Kelley, had a horrifying history of violent crimes while he was in the Air Force, including cracking his infant son's skull. But it wasn't reported, so when he bought his AR, the NICS check came up clean as a whistle.

How can we have background checks, not to mention "expanded" background checks, if there's no background to check? I read yesterday that nationwide, about 80% of criminal convictions are actually reported to NICS. This is insane. Dana pointed out last night that only 38 states actually have a requirement to report to it. Seems like if there were any issue that requires immediate attention, it would be this. Yet, not a word anywhere, not a peep. Just "expanded" background checks, banning bumpfires and raising the gun-buying age.

Re: NRA vs CNN Tonight 9PM

I knew this was going to be a screw-fest when the very first speaker, the school superintendent, got up and said "I don't want to put guns in teachers' hands, I want to put more money in their pockets!" and got a roaring standing ovation. It was downhill after that.

The level of anti-NRA hostility was remarkable, with constant shrieking and raving about how the NRA cares more about making money for gun manufacturers than protecting our children, etc. Dana was booed and jeered when she pointed out that only 38 states are required to submit criminal records to the NICS database. Unbelievable.

Re: NRA vs CNN Tonight 9PM

I don't see how the NRA rep will survive on that stage. The whole program has been basically an anti-NRA event, and those two Democrats repeating how we need universal background checks (yawn), and we must "get these weapons of war off our streets!!!!"

Re: NRA vs CNN Tonight 9PM

The hostility towards the NRA is overwhelming. The audience roars in condemnation every time the NRA comes up.

Re: NRA vs CNN Tonight 9PM

It'll be interesting to see how they respond to her. I'm watching this (while I do other things), and so far it's been like a high school pep rally, with the superintendent getting up and saying "we don't need to put guns in the hands of teachers" and getting a huge standing ovation.

CNN is milking this one for all it's worth.
