Well, your LTC is quickly available on SOME database. About 2 years ago, my wife and I went to a U.S. Air Force base as visitors. When we were checking in at the front gate office, the guy behind the counter took my driver's license, typed something into a computer and immediately said, "he's got a CHL."
(off-topic side note) when he said that, the other guard said "really?" and they both just chuckled. That was it. Nobody asked if I was carrying or anything; they gave us a temporary window sticker and we drove on into the base. Hmmmm.

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
I'd still like to know who killed 560. Who. Name, please. Not "somebody who talked to somebody..." Who. SOMEBODY's hands are bloody here. Whose?

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
This is part of what frustrates me. Even if we DO round up all these supportive sponsors, endorsers, etc. in the legislature, it still just takes one person to sink it.Lambda Force wrote:They didn't vote on the floor. That's true.
But Beruity proposed asking each candidate at election time if they would co-author or sponsor a bill similar to HB 560. I think that is unnecessary and possibly misleading. What politicians say to get our votes doesn't always match what they do in office. A better indication of where they stand is whether or not they signed on as a co-author or sponsor to HB 560 this session.

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
Yeah, this is something a lot of people lose sight of. Skim through this list of filed House bills. Note the topics. They have a lot of stuff to do, other than just pass or kill gun bills
http://www.legis.state.tx.us/Reports/Re ... housefiled
We're just a drop in the bucket. And almost EVERY ONE of the bills in that list has supporters who think it's the most important piece of legislation, and they're calling and writing and petitioning to get it passed, just like we are with 560, 375, etc. Things like commercial oyster boat management, powdered alcohol, sales tax exemption for adult diapers, raw milk regulation, AIDS education........
Keep that in mind; it sort of puts things in perspective.

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
The record shows it was referred to HS. Nothing beyond that yet. Is there some way to find out when the committee will discuss it? Can people go to the committee meeting and provide input?

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
You mean the committee ITSELF doesn't have any members yet? How serious is that at this point?TexasCajun wrote: It looks like no committee assignments have been made. Specifically no one has been assigned to the public safety committee (through which all gun bills must pass).
Who is the key backer of this bill in the lege?

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
Another little data point I've read often, although I haven't seen a cite, is that "police officers are seven times more likely to commit crimes than LTC holders." Seems like this would make an effective point in a committee or on the floor, but I haven't heard anybody use it.....LTC 21 times less likely to commit a crime than the general public"...

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
Any suggestions as to the main supporting talking points? The antis will certainly be screaming at it, especially the 51% exception. Probably "law enforcement," too.
We need a huge response to future calls-to-action to keep it from being gutted in committee.
Chas.
