Re: New CHL-8 Form
I took a different approach to this. I updated my CHL Forms Master and created a exportable CHL-8 in the macro version. This will automatically and your name as a cursive font on the signature line of the form. Not an official "digital signature" but DPS hasn't kicked mine back yet.

Re: Man on Oxygen wants to take my class
I think we are supposed to accomodate disabilities to the extent possible. I have let shooters sit in a chair to show proficiency. (Kind of hard to hold the gun and a cane at the same time.) I agree. Ask the guy some questions so you better understand HIS limitations and then do what you can to acc...

Re: New sights
I found some interesting shooting glasses on Amazon.com that have built-in reader lenses behind the safety lense. You look a little goofy but the sites are clear and your still protected. Different strength readers can be ordered. They work great for me. Use search terms "shooting glasses with ...

Re: Hays County Range Challenged
There is work going on to set up an organization and range in North Hays County: http://www.txhcssc.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I hear this range in North Hays County is working on getting things together soon. Keep an ear open for some news some time in early 2014.

Re: 7 of 13 revolvers
I have not had anyone use a revolver during 2013 with the exception of my last class. I had only one lady bring her snub-nose .38. She shot terribly with it and I offered to let her use one of my semi automatics. She tried a couple and shot much better in practice but then went back to her .38 for t...

Re: CHL 100 Instructions vs New CHL 100
On the instructions on filling out the CHL-100 under "required information" it lists "Location where the classroom instruction occurred. This may be a business address or a 911 address if the training did not occur at a place of business. " yet the new CHL-100, under the Classro...

Re: "Waiting Room"
DPS is processing applications pretty efficiently right now. Just hang in there and you will get your plastic before you know it.

Re: Waiting for a Class....
Don't hold me to this but from your signature it looks like this would be your first (initial) CHL Instructor class which takes four days plus range qualifications. Since all currently licensed instructors expire on 12-31-13, DPS is giving Instructor renewal classes priority. There may not be an ini...

Re: Price of 1st time license
Congratulations -- You have now completed the state application portion. The other parts will be to get your fingerprints taken and submitted...and then take and pass the actual CHL class from a local instructor. Upon passing the class you will receive a form CHL-100 which will need to be submitted ...

Re: Glad to be here!
You can pretty much count on having to submit new fingerprints. DPS now only uses digital fingerprints and they need to be taken by their approved vendor MorphoTrust USA. You can find the link on the application page of the DPS website.

Re: Instructor renewal
I am also concerned that there will be a lot of current instructors that either didn't the word about having an additional teaching cert or the DPS renewal class and are going to be out of luck for teaching the CHL class in 2014. Has anybody heard about a second series of classes from DPS? My busine...

Re: Instructor renewal
I put together my application and supporting documentation and emailed is in to "rsd_lrs_chl@dps.texas.gov" on 9-16-13. I received a reply on 9-26-13 that said they received my completed application and supporting documents along with the class schedule below: October 2, 2013 - El Paso, Te...

Re: CHL Instructor Renewal
Anybody hear about what is going on with Georgetown? They sent out the email with the dates and time and I responded last week and selected Georgetown on November 6th. Today I received an email from DPS that said this, "You are scheduled for class and will receive a confirmation by email regard...
