Re: can you carry a NFA firearm with a CHL in TX?

My understanding is, if it requires NFA paperwork, Texas law does not touch it at all, except to say, "If it follows federal regulations, it's legal here." As I do not know of any federal law restricting the carriage of NFA weaponry, only ownership, I would have to conclude that if you legally own a fully-automatic weapon, an SBR or SBS, suppressor, or an AOW, you can then legally carry it in Texas in whatever fashion you choose, with or without a CHL.

Note, I am not a lawyer, nor do I attempt to claim full and unfettered knowledge of federal and/or Texas law. I may well be wrong in my interpretation. Even if I am right, I do not recommend carrying your Sten, PPsH, M-16, or Serbu Super Shorty (in tactical thigh rig) down the street in public, open view. You may win the court case, and the subsequent wrongful arrest civil suit. You may lose, and wind up in jail and poor. Either way, you'll probably eat pavement/dirt and get a nifty ride in a taxi with gumball lights and woo-woo box.

Nor can I proffer the ubiquitous trench-coat as an acceptable cover-garment (even though that is what would be required to hide those things), as we are speaking of Texas, and it gets downright hot! I can think of no better way to wind up with a "suspicious person" call, and then probably again dirt-toothpaste and woo-woo gumball taxi ride.

So... I -think- you can carry a properly registered NFA item any way you choose in Texas, BUT I don't recommend it. :biggrinjester:
